Its just the “boogeyman” to raise to get some attention…

What’s the relevance of them being ready a year earlier than PNG?

Is there some urgency all of a sudden?
Cause they know a team is coming in before the next tv deal

they are no chance for a team until the dolphins have between five and ten years in the nrl

If it’s not the Chinese threat it’s the afl threat lol.
Maybe someone could expalin to me how the afl can take over the region with one afl club covering the whole of brisbane but nrl can’t hold it with two already in place?

You gotta have some angle for your puff piece …

Why the push for 18th team before next TV deal? Unless the NRL is intending to just extend a deal with the incumbents again then the NRl would have to pick up the bill for two years or hope the current tv partners are happy to renegotiate the existing deal for the remainder of the contract.

Maximise their negotiating position

I expect two teams will be announced before the next tv deal

one to start before it starts and the other during the next tv deal

they will be going to tv with a 19 team comp plus pre and post season

hence why it will be 600 milllion pa

But why would you pay out $17mill a year for no revenue increase before the next deal? why wouldnt they have it ready to go for 2028 and have it included as part of the new deal? They can still go to negotiations with a 19 club proposal but not be losing $34mill in club payments to the new club prior to deal being signed? I se elittle upside for NRL in bringing them in before the next tv deal, and question if clubs would back it anyway with no WIFM proposition.

Why are qlders so scared of AFL? It's nothing in Qld.

1000%. There is an extremely dissonant argument in the whole we should have a third Brisbane side.

We shouldn’t copy fumbleball’s strategy because it doesn’t work yet at the same time we should put a side in order to combat that same strategy - explain that logic.

True if PNG I suppose, but then that Govt money isnt looking so flash if $17mill is covering the NRL grant. How much will be left after that to cover the $15mill plus they need to generate on top of that but unlikely to be able to?

Putting dots in a map is the afl strategy

so Perth or Adelaide for nrl

Brisbane nz or png are the opposite of afl approach

Dunno but getting free content is a really good way to butter up nein and Fox for the next tv deal

Not really, just they have a 30 year head start with already having consolidated heartlands with second clubs in WA and SA and having first expansion clubs in place for many years which are now hugely succesful (Swans and Lions). We have literally only just got to consolidating heartlands with second Brisbane club let alone started added expansion clubs (Storm aside). Perth is the obvious next choice for a new market, like adding Lions and Swans for AFL. When it comes to adding Adelaide or Hobart (or PNG) itd be more like GWS and Suns (or tassie) additions for AFL. Not that we shouldnt, just that we should be down the track when the code is in a position to be able to invest long term in those higher risk projects.
