Again grate, nice bragging rights. But it dont put food on the plate. That is seen on how media vlaues the sport. And very very clearly we are valued much less than AFL, regardless of our audience.

You are also taking one metric out of many to justify your position.
Top tier club location, participation in every S&T, fan base in every S&T, media coverage in very S&T. Value of the competition to its sponsors plus others. These are also relevant metrics to consider in looking at the "national" interest level of a sport.
Wow someone seems a bit upset

lmao

go rugby league

Because ratings show afl expansion is dots on map

the lights are on and nobody is Home

nrl games average 30 percent more viewers than afl

so which code is more National ?
Cause it ain’t fumbleball

I’d rather the money and so would you (and anybody else for that matter)

That’s the real world.

sigh, grow up. Im not upset just trying to have an adult conversation and point out a flaw in your logic. Again i understand it doesnt sit comfortable for you but thems the facts. Youd be very hard pressed to find many that did not think AFL was a more national sport than rugby league at this time.

Great, good for you. Live in hope and all that. Does help in adult conversation to be able to back up your opinion with some reasonable justifications though. You remind me of the little kid who just says something is so, not for any other reason than he says its so lol

You think the nrl going to market with 2 new teams plus the impact of the dolphins plus the new pre and post season comps and an expanded nrlw won’t ?

you have so little faith in rugby league !

Where did the money go for afl ?

have you seen nrl finances lately ?
A billion $ asset purchase, greater investment in grass roots, upping of club grants, greater payments to players, AFLW full competition, investment in grassroots facilities, increased marketing and so it goes on. Amazing what you can do with $200mill a year more!

They bought it for mates rates and help from the vic govt

and then went and borrowed against it because they didn’t manage themselves during covid like we did

lmao

On paper yes absolutely, in the real world where the NRl has failed to capitalize on its advantages deal after deal, god only knows! The guys likely in charge of the next negotiations are the same ones who sold us down the river last time so who knows what will happen.

Good eal then? You asked what they spend the extra money on, I gave you the list. Marvel is a cracking asset for them for what they've paid for it. Id love for the NRL to have been able to have bought commbank in same way. We just dont have that political influence level they have.

They didnt use any loans over covid, like us. They sued their assets as a guarantee if they needed it, which they didnt. Youre being very disingenuous there.

The most powerful sporting administrator in the country

rugby league doesn’t need mates rates deals and it still wins

that’s what makes it more satisfying

yes they borrowed for covid they haven’t even paid back those debts yet

We are growing our property revenue

afl Includes 125 million in revenue from marvel which might only result in a small profit

We bought a hotel? Wow good for us.

Again the revenue difference is huge. Their TV deals have always been bigger. They get greater sponsorship deals than us.

I hope it changes (and maybe it will) but to argue that over the past 20-30 years they haven’t done better than us is absolutely insane.

Btw fumbleball are not even that well run - they absolutely pale in comparison to sports in America or Europe for example. We have just been that poor.

Thus, it would make more sense to generally follow strategies of well run competitions rather than doing what nobody else does - like further consolidating existing markets or entering teams from third world countries.

This was posted on “The Den - The North Sydney Bears True Supporters Facebook Group” it was in response to this post:
So I heard on the radio news that the Bears will the likely 18th team in the NRL but they will be based in North Sydney but playing games at North Sydney Oval, Tonga, Samoa, PNG and NZ, did anyone hear this as well ?.

“Gels with what I overheard at a party recently with claims from a close colleague of a senior NRL official that the NRL have no interest in Perth but want PNG/Pacific area with Bears management. If our bid ticks the boxes, at this stage we're a huge chance. Experience over the past 20 years suggests though we should not get overly optimistic.....I won't believe a thing till it's official! I still think Perth Bears is the more natural model, but Pacific Bears beats no Bears”.IMG_2906.jpeg
