Where would RL rate is far as popularity in Perth

West Coast Eagles
Dockers
Scorchers
Wildcats.

Then RL?

We are talking 5th best in a city of 2m people. I think getting 10% of the population is reasonable.

So you are looking at 200k people. Someone like Harvey Norman that is good and will pay more.

A company with a presence in PNG surely want the millions of extra eye balls PNG brings in. So no matter who comes in it brings in money

Yes but Perth's Premier has also reached out to the NRL, We don't know what the actual assistance PNG was offered
Not competing with Wildcats or Scorchers at all ...

Are you saying Foxtel wants to drive down the value of the NRL so they can make less money from the commercials they air on Fox League?

Anyone who doesn't advocate for Adelaide and Perth is getting money from AwFuL?

Well where's my cheque?

I haven't received a f**ken cent from those greedy bastards!

No, they just pay the NRL less than its worth, of course its a good deal for fox.

Have you seen the ads on Fox League? Sportsbet, KFC, Sportsbet, KFC, Sportsbet, KFC, Sportsbet, KFC, Sportsbet, KFC, Sportsbet, KFC, Sportsbet, KFC....

You are for corporate $.

We aren't talking people clicking like on facebook. We are talking those who'd pay for memberships etc.

Scorchers are massive in Perth for only 2 months of the year.

No potential supporter is not getting behind a Rugby League team because of these two summer sports.

Plenty of corporate money in Perth, only competing with the two AFL sides for big whale sponsors.

As I said many times ANY team that comes in will be fine for money. It was more realistically how many locals do I think will watch them as opposed to the other local teams.

Even big interstate clubs playing in AFL gets more viewers. 200k is still a decent outcome but we need to be realistic. It isn't like millions will jump on board

The question is. How much will people like Bundy Rum pay to sponsor things like Super Sat with the extra 200k or so that will watch NRL over there...

As opposed to having millions tune in from PNG, of course those in PNG need to be able to afford the product.

So hence why I say the game/TV should have no concerns over what city is team 18. All will bring stuff into the game

I think people are realisitc. We dont need millions, we need 15-17k rusted on fans, another 5-10k occasional fans and then grow the interest in NRL more broadly over the years.

Bundy rum would know how many bottles it sells in WA and how many it sells in PNG and value the markets accordingly. at an avg PNG salary of $400 a month I'm imagining theyre not selling many $50 bottles of rum?

Mate the vast majority of people don't even have reliable electricity or running water, let alone TV.

The PNG TV market is worth literally nothing.

Better tell that to Netflix.

Or the 2m people who watch Panthers v Hunters in the National Championship game

Yes we are probably talking 25% of the population with access. That is still 2m people though. Hardly nothing

There wouldn't be a potential expansion location that hasn't been approved by TV or sponsors.

Yeah mate they want to pay more for the product even if it’s not in their best interests to do so.

You don't think Foxtel holds a monopoly over the PTV rights in Australia?

Which other PTV provider has made a serious bid for the NRL broadcast rights over the last 20 years?

Ch7 has never made a serious bid for the NRL. They stated their desire to bid when Ch9/10/Foxtel held the AwFuL rights 20 years ago.

I do recall News Ltd acquiring the NBL rights a decade or more ago, under the stipulation the Brisbane Bullets were revived.

If a Perth-based company is interested in advertising their business to rugby league fans in Queensland and NSW then they'll sponsor one of the 14 NRL clubs from those states.

Does the EPL need to base a team in the Middle-East to acquire investment from wealthy Arabs?

1. I must be dreaming but I’m sure there are multiple options out there now and it’s not 2003. But yeah there is only one option and every sport is on Foxtel.
2. Don’t care it’s the NBL. Not many people watch the NBL. It’s not going to overtake cricket anytime soon
3. That might be relevant if the game had a global following but it doesn’t.

He is right to a point. The game won't get the likes of Netflix etc involved until there are more eyeballs. We will be stuck with Fox sports for the forseeable future

It is a shame that fiji, NZ and PNG are so small, If we were in Europe and had a reach it would be 150m people and they'd be lining up.
Hopefully a Pasifica side is able to one of the 4 sides to come in.

That and a reasonable return from Vegas maybe enough to get multi-nationals onboard including more options for TV

They'd be better spending time and money increasing interest in NRL in UK and France than wasting it in USA if international tv audiences are the goal. Reality is NRL is largely a domestic product and serious interest will only come from domestic providers. Best hope is two or three australian streaming services want to use it as a vehicle to seriously increase their traffic. Then we'll see the big $'s.

Stan v Parmaount v Amazon v Foxsports would do!

WTF are you talking about? What's this got to do with Netflix? And where did you pull that bullshit number for the other game from?

There is NO TV money in PNG.

They are only being talked about because of some Fed government pork barelling. Otherwise nobody would be interested.

Netflix is in PNG. If no one has power why would they be there

plenty of places stated that figure

So the NRL will go to a venue with zero money in for them to keep Feds happy?

zero chance of that. If there was no money in it they wouldn't go there.

They have said many times the NRL want to be the top sport in the Pacific, They clearly have been told that it is worth more as a result

Particularly if you want to get Amazon, Netflix, ESPN to be players in TV rights

Name one streaming service that's willing to cover production costs and pay $250m per annum?

Ch10/Paramount and Ch9/STAN might bid for the lot, but I'll be surprised if they can match what Foxtel provide. Ch9 might be happy to saddle up with Foxtel.

Theres an est 10,000 net flix subscribers in PNG at less than half the australian subscription price. Out of a country of ?20mill that is pretty telling wouldnt you say?
