There's no genuine discussion to be had around here anymore, just a handful of terminally online whack jobs playing pigeon chess. It's mundane, and there're better places in which to discuss this stuff with genuine people.

Also RL as a whole just isn't that interesting at the moment.

The quality of the product on the pitch is the worst it's been in living memory. Somehow in the space of a single offseason the NRL managed to neuter the closest and most competitive competition on the planet, where any team could beat any other on their day, replace it with repetitive mindless sludge, and hypnotise the majority of people involved in the sport into believing that that's somehow a good development.

Off the field RL's doing what it's always done after bumbling into a golden period; the old guard is going out of it's way to chase off any outside interest and investment in the sport for fear of losing control, and stepping on as many rakes as possible in the process.

There's very strong early 00s RU vibes around the joint frankly. Obviously it's not completely analogous, but they're making very similar mistakes for very similar reasons.

It's actually quite a more logical solution, especially as there is no real ground that can accommodate their games in Cairns without some construction.
People call on Sydney teams to be playing out of the SFS, Homebush and Parra. Well why not the Cowboys and Papuans out of the Townsville stadium???

Play home games at that great stadium against the Cowboys, Broncos, Titans and Dolphins, and maybe the Warriors.and/or the Storm.

Nobody wants to admit it but if they’re FIFO the base should be the most convenient location, not picking a dot on the map that doesn’t host an NRL team. PNG is the market and what is supposedly being paid for, not Cairns.

Cairns based means travel every week of the season. Sydney based they could play all NSW clubs away and only travel for home games. Brisbane based they could at least stay home for away games against Broncos, Dolphins & Titans plus potentially a couple of home games against the Brisbane teams at Suncorp to bring in some $.

Here's an idea,, why not base the PNG team on the central coast? Great facilities , no existing team, won't have to fly for the Sydney games, good climate, rugby league area..
PNG Bears... then when the rubber bullets come out, they can just be " the" Bears.
