Cairns will mean less travel overall (still less time in air than Perth!!)..

No way based in Cairns and travelling 24 times a year works out less travel than being based in Sydney and travelling 14 times a year for games in PNG and whatever away games aren’t in the Newcastle-Sydney-Wollongong corridor.

..they don't understand after all these months!!..or they do & trying to trash bid which is favourite ATM

Seems you don’t understand the bid, it isn’t ‘PNG/Cairns’ it’s just PNG. The bid wants to be based in PNG from day 1, they’ve only just recently admitted to being open to the idea of Cairns or any Australian base if need be and want to play all or the vast majority of home games in PNG.

They wont need money if the are funded by the govt, the purpose of the PNG team is to represent PNG, being based in Cairns is only for the interm and to help attract the initial players and staff for the 1st few seasons, as the clubs infrastructure in PNG wouldn't be setup, and its far more stable in Australia to setup, than In Port Moresby

Base them in Sydney then, attract more players there than Cairns, also less travel if they can “stay home” for 10 away games.

Why does this feel like the cheers episode where Kevin McHale is drawn into an asinine debate over nails at Boston garden?!
PNG will play in pacifica & be based elsewhere. Nrl / government will choose most practical & cost effective approach. None of that will be resolved here..

Nobody wants to admit it but if they’re FIFO the base should be the most convenient location, not picking a dot on the map that doesn’t host an NRL team. PNG is the market and what is supposedly being paid for, not Cairns.

Cairns based means travel every week of the season. Sydney based they could play all NSW clubs away and only travel for home games. Brisbane based they could at least stay home for away games against Broncos, Dolphins & Titans plus potentially a couple of home games against the Brisbane teams at Suncorp to bring in some $.
Png had the opportunity to link with north Sydney bears and be based in Sydney or east coast tigers and be based in Brisbane

they rejected both

andeew hill met with the cairns govt so obviously that’s the only area they are looking at basing it in

I don’t see albo having a lot of problems if it’s cairns based either

..Perth advocates digging for something coz their choice is never happening. It's called a death spiral..

The "Cairns Govt". That's the level of intellectual debate we are at.

The argument for a major population centre that is growing being home to a team is self evident.

Cairns, on its own, isn't that. Regardless, it's already got a team.

Sunshine Coast, Bri3 and Gold Coast2 would be better placed just in QLD.

Then outside of this it's Perth, Adelaide and Auckland2 as the only sensible options in the next couple of decades.

@Pippen94 keeps saying Pasifika.

Where and what venues is this? And the Feds haven't said anything about funding it.

Crazily enough Fiji would be a better bet then PNG, but is also has major sustainability issues.

Only advantage is flight time to png. Everything else is a disadvantage. no stadium if they do want to play some ‘home’ games at home, not a great place to relocate players to, lots of travel to away games.

Politically though it will likey only get opposition from cowboys as opposed to ten clubs if proposed for nsw or 3 clubs if proposed brisbane. Cowboys have no power so easy for nrl to ignore them.

Reposted because people are dumb
“Council will also be applying for funding from the Australian Government’s $400 million regional Precincts and Partnerships Program to support development of a masterplan for the proposed Major Events Precinct.

The proposed masterplan will guide the strategic vision and long-term planning for the Major Events Precinct, which includes Barlow Park, the Cairns Showgrounds and surrounds.”

they want to get Barlow park upgraded

Jeez I wonder where I heard that before
