Australia isn't interested in fixing PNG, they just saw an opportunity to make a token gesture that they are helping the US in their proxy war against China.

Australia wants all the care with no responsibility. Furthermore, it's not like we've got some amazing track record of fixing poverty and homelessness in our own country anyway.
Yep, you're right on the money here, ....and they are hell bent on delivering this... like i said before NRL will take the money and run with it... this thread is dead come this September, maybe earlier.. we should be talking about who next after= 19th team

So security won’t be an issue for the png hunters who are based in png but it will stop a fifo side which is based in cairns

the people deathriding this are special
Security has and will continue to be an issue for QCup sides.

I know you guys know nothing about RL outside of your Sydney suburb, but this has been news for a while.

The Mackay Cutters threatened to boycott their game in Port Moresby in 2022 due to civil unrest. The QRL threatened to suspend the Cutters from all state wide competitions. Albo provided extra security to ensure the match was held.

The match was held without any problems.

You’re one of the few people on this thread with an open mind

i would take your concerns seriously as you’ve shown you can change your opinion based on evidence as opposed to bias

The likelihood of FIFO NRL players getting attacked in Port Moresby is extremely low, although security will need to be tightened to guarantee their safety. A barrier might need to be built around the field to prevent fans from swarming onto the field.

Didn't Lloyd Robson Oval have a security barrier around the field before it was replaced with the National Football Stadium?

If the players were living in Port Moresby then it might be too risky. FIFO shouldn't cause any problems.

There was talk of an athletes village being built in png

I’m sure the rlpa will ensure it’s safe for players

but I’m sure maxipad and karentard will be in contact with them with their own advice

What is this statement based on?

What if a riot happens, on the day of the game or thereabouts, and the airport is shutdown for days etc. You are thinking about this far too simplisticly.

a barrier might need to be built around the field to prevent fans from swarming onto the field.
See Hillsborough disaster for why this is a terrible idea.

People are coming up with expensive, unsustainable work-arounds when the solution is obvious.

Cleary isn't leaving us panthers .. keep dreaming lol
As for marquees, whoever wants the money, remember, they can afford to overspend on the top end, and fill the remainder with the local minimum wage
