The amount of fans that the Dolphins genuinely introduced to the sport would be miniscule.

Obviously it's anecdotal, but pretty much everything I've seen of Dolphins fans suggests that most of them were people who were already fans of the sport that were either not actively engaged with the NRL for whatever reasons, or fans of other teams who have picked them up as their 'second team'.

That's opposed to the Storm for example, some members of whose fanbase can still be laughably ignorant of the sport to this day on occasion lol.
Again if its minuscule, thats your perceived percentage, for all we know theres plenty who have started going for them, purely coz they've just moved to or near the northern part of seq, one of my mates moved to redlands a few years back, i told him last year there's a new team just north of you, and we've gone to two games since, maybe he is one of those you've identified as minuscule, but there's plenty of interstate migration lately into that very area, since covid, probably just before it too as it was a cheaper to live up there, than in Melbourne or Sydney

Mate... its not just redcliffe faithful, and only non bronx supporters, and new fans of the game, and fans of the shinny new team and mascot,
Its all of the above, randomly, you cant just say theres no redcliffe fans, and its all existing haters of the bronx, there's no special calculator or percentage, its just random perception
it would be interesting to know and map where Dolphins members live actually... If they are scattered all over Brisbane then that is a positive. If they are mostly focussed around Redcliffe peninsula and surrounding suburbs then it proves the Dolphins were not the team Brisbane needed.

If the fanbase is concentrated around Moreton Bay then that's great. It means there's 30k active rugby league fans in the region willing to support a local team.

Ipswich and Logan can provide something similar with Brisbane 3. Adding another 25-35k members from southern Brisbane will make the game stronger.

haha, reel 'em in.
Hows the addiction going by the way? Isnt that the pastime of choice in Logan? You tell us you cant leave the house because of dogs but I think we all know what thats a euphemism for :)

A couple bad spots doesn’t make a city.

Sure there’s a few bad apples in Logan but there’s also some very nice areas in Logan too.

No different from any other city.

Dane is missing the point here all together, it’s not about instant fan fare so much as it’s about next generation fan fare.

It’s about keeping those youngin’s who play league involved due to new opportunities with new franchises they might otherwise not get due to lack of pathways.

It’s about opening new corporate opportunities with businesses who don’t necessarily care for what’s currently available. Be it via new landscapes ie Perth, PNG or new franchise ie Dolphins.

Not just limited to above statements either, plenty other things to consider beyond them.

There are so many factors and moving parts here.

Out of Brisbane City, Moreton Bay, Redlands, Ipswich and Logan... Logan would be my least preferred LGA

Wasn't sure where to put this. Yet another hair-brained scheme for the Bears.

NRL expansion: Panthers CEO believes regional Bears team can solve two major issues

Penrith Panthers CEO Brian Fletcher believes the NRL can solve two of rugby league’s most pressing issues by reviving North Sydney Bears in regional NSW. See Fletcher’s six-point plan.

The NRL chief executive who navigated his club to three successive premierships has revealed a detailed plan for North Sydney to become the Country Bears - a move he claims could help rescue bush footy and provide the club with one million fans.

Panthers chief executive Brian Fletcher has proposed the Bears becoming the NRL’s regional side rather than linking with the Pacific, Perth or PNG bid franchises. Fletcher’s proposal was immediately supported by influential country mayor, Mid-Western Regional Council’s Des Kennedy.

Fletcher believes the Country Bears could:
• Play games in Tamworth, Bathurst, Wagga Wagga, Mudgee, Dubbo and Coffs Harbour
• Give the Bears around one million fans
• Help save bush footy
• Secure funding from regional councils and large country businesses
• Spread the Bears brand and fan base across the entire state
• Allow country kids to play NRL but remain living in the bush.

“Why wouldn’t you call them the Country Bears? The NRL would be looking after two issues at once – they would be expanding the comp, which they want to do with the Bears, and also looking after country football,” Fletcher said.

“There are some very big businesses in towns like Dubbo, Tamworth and Wagga. You could play the majority of games at the big regional centres. It would also be a great shot in the arm for country rugby league and would give Bears a bigger supporter base all over the state. There are companies and councils in the bush that would guarantee their funding."

“I just think it would be marvellous, it makes sense and would be a lovely thing for country football. You hear all the country people saying the game is dying and how they have lost teams in their comps."

“You could have a game or two games a year in Tamworth, Bathurst, Wagga, Mudgee, Dubbo and Coffs Harbour on the condition that those councils and big businesses were part of the funding. It would be a sellout game at every one of them. The Bears have 200,000 fans. If you do this and call them the Country Bears then you might have a million fans.”

Fletcher said country kids would aspire to play with the Bears and be able to remain living in the bush.

“Another bonus would be that a country footballer has the chance to stay in the bush and play. You could have a $1m player playing in Dubbo,” Fletcher said. “They could be based in North Sydney or maybe the central part of NSW.

“Your reserve grade team might be the Wagga or Tamworth team, for instance. You get into that side and then you’re a chance of being picked up for first grade.”

Mudgee-based Kennedy was an instant fan of Fletcher’s plan.

“It’s a great idea,” Kennedy said. “It would rejuvenate bush football. Bush footy isn’t broken but it’s bent, let me tell you.

“Every regional kid in NSW would become a Bears’ fan if they were the Country Bears. Don’t forget, about a third of all registered NRL players come from the bush.

“There’s no surfboards or Pacific Ocean out here so the kids play rugby league. It would give kids in the bush aspirations to play for the Country Bears.”

Kennedy said the Bears would be invited to play games at Mudgee’s Glen Willow Regional Sports Stadium.

“We’ve got the best oval in the bush,” he said. “We would welcome them more than ever.”

Fletcher added: “Travel arrangements these days are that good, anyway. The Bears supporters I’ve spoken to would rather this (plan) than anything else they’ve heard. There are Bears supporters everywhere.”

What a crock of crap. Maybe they can cure all known diseases while they are at it?
