I’m quoting the arlc

if you don’t like the direction they are taking the game you can stick to watching super league

maybe you should learn to handle reality a bit better
No you’re not. You’re quoting news ltd journos and making sht up.
show me a qoute from any arlc official on what either the feds or wa govt’s are offering. You cant because it’s not been stated and won’t be Publicly.

I think looking at the rivalry between the broncs and dolphins that a 2nd NZ team will have the inside running for next off the rank. I'd leave another brissy team till last , making it 20 teams. Let this rivalry get established.
I'd agree with that. I'd go Perth, then NZ2, then Ipswich. That should bolster the game's finances and then we can work on a strategy for Adelaide (# 21) and if the Govt is still interested in 20 - 30 years time they can fund us a proper PNG side as # 22

No where in that article does an arlc offical say anything about how much or how long the feds are willing to fund a pasifika team.

you’ve taken a throw away figure by a news ltd journo, made up your own ten year duration and now think that the figure is $250mill. Your just making sht up

She literally is talking about how keen they are for a png team

the funniest thing about this forum is all the weird conspiracy theories then the arlc literally does the opposite

let’s try and keep the discussion on what’s going to actually happen

png is now the obvious front runner

Brisbane 3 also has lots of support

than leaves nz2 and Perth for team 20

I'd go perth next too, but I'm biased at I live there. The games in a great place and thankfully has an aggressive leader

odds are even if this bastardised team gets green lit Perth would still be team 19 or 20, with NZ 2 (hopefully) or Brisbane 3 being the other

It's Adelaide that misses out
There won't be a need for NZ2, when the pasific team gets brought in, and as far as SEQ goes we are only 5 rounds into the dolphins start, that needs to be more to have a proper look at the area in terms of placing another club in the city...
Its Perth and Adelaide left, no more NSW (obviously) and probably no more qld teams

The game is in roughly the same position it was in in the late 80s and early 90s; it's leaders are maximising short term success without considering the broader impacts that their decisions will have in the long term.

The current success isn't sustainable, and it hasn't done anything to address the sport's real existential issues like dropping participation rates in male demographics across the board in Australia, the sport slowly dying in significant parts of the bush and regional areas, it's aging support base, it's almost complete failure to grow it's market share outside of the heartlands and other stereotypical demographics, the threat CTE poses to the game's future, the NRL's equalisation methods becoming ever-increasingly outdated and ineffective year on year, oversaturation issues in Sydney, the competition and sport's perception issues, it's over reliance on the gambling industry, etc, etc.

If anything PVL's decisions have consistently made most of those issue worse as well, though most people won't realise it until long after he's gone, which I think is cynical BTW. Get all the glory, then leave the mess for the next guy to take the blame for.

Cheap marketing tricks like nostalgia sales, gimmick rule changes, and selling out to broadcasters will only get you so far, and the sport is inevitably going to crash from the high if it doesn't start planning for the long term and actually try to address some of it's real issues.

Union in late 90s and early 00s is another good example of this BTW.

I told you this before but of course you ignored it

They got an average of $550m a season.

You didn't answer how much would you pay just for NRL a month?
i ignored it because you failed miserably to explain it like you have countless times
they got an enormous increase for no extra content ..we didn't for extra content

you were the one who hung your hat on content
the above alone makes a mockery of your position on that

then you tried to say incrementally they'll have a different amount at the end of their deal to start , thats laughable when the full amount is divided by the length of the deal to get the PA amount , thats the amount I'm talking about.

& forget your ... what would you pay for NRL a month ? argument because its equally as stupid
the AFL may have 500K STV subscribers who have it only for their sport & nothing else
they pay about $30 on average per month & it might be up to $40 by the next deal
thats only 20mill $ a month
thats 240 mill a year
get the picture ?
many other factors are at play because if they weren't neither sport gets anything like what they are getting or will get.

They offered an extra round of afl when the initial bidding was poor

I also suspect they’ve added tasmania as well so extra future content and if they don’t get added the tv deal is less

I much prefer PNG on their own. They shouldn't be lumped as part of a PNG-Pasifika frankenstein type of a club.

In the initial stages, I much rather see a PNG side based in Cairns and play their home games in six blocks of two, two home games at a time to cut down on travelling and spend more time in PNG. And in the off season, have training camps in PNG.

PNG deserve a team on their own. They support rugby league like it's the second coming of The Beatles.

Deserve has got nothing to do with it.

It's the NRL's decision to grant a licence, not the PNG government, not the Australian government, not AUKUS, not China.

PNG have been handed billions of dollars and what have they done with it? Pissed it up the wall, with the corrupt getting richer and the poor remaining poor.

What is going to be the difference with giving money to an NRL club?

What are you talking about? They'll be the biggest club in the NRL, spend all that grant money wisely on the community and grassroots and wouldn't be corrupt and riddled with administration issues at all

They have a extra round not only for the new years but the next 2 as well, Then of course they may bring extra teams in.

Yep so you have $240m a year of subs. I agree with that for both codes.

That is why we get ads even though we pay for Fox Sports.

One sport has ads in:

Pre-game
Qtr time
Half time
3/4 time
Post game

as opposed to

Pre-game
Half time
Post game.

So you have less chance to get a top up to subs by advertising.

On the $40 per month.

At only people having it for NRL while the game gets $600m from TV.
It would be 6 months at $40 it would take 2.5m subs that is more than Kayo has.

How many people in Perth will drop $40 a month on RL and pay for Kayo? Their fan base will like AFL so aren't getting rid of Kayo.

It certainly can get to $500m or more a season and for the reasons above that is market value to not lose money

A post by the Great Dane is a remedy for feeling positive and happy. He always makes you feel worse.

They deserve to be on their own. PNG have enormous passion for the game. However, they do have challenges. How is it going to work? The time for them is not now.

The 18th club should be either Perth or NZ 2. Perth does offer another metro, and I would lean towards them. But NZ 2 would be great too.
