A journo says $25mill, not any official source.
So you made uo ten years and $250mill, great good you admit it and can now stop stating it as a fact.

Yes they do, maybe they are right, Or:
maybe the NRL is just appeasing Govt,
maybe NRL is using to get a stronger committment from WA Govt,
maybe NRL doesnt really know what its going to do yet.

only time will tell.

I’ve made a lot of predictions you should’ve listened to eg Monday night football returning

most of this stuff is common sense which seems to be lacking in this world of fiction

this forum would be better if people discussed the negative points rather than just ignoring them

Perth is still a chance but their govt has got to sweeten the deal now

and nz2 aren’t dead either

Again that is just a media sound bite with no official confirmation, given negotiations for next tv deal are years away why would the NRl be committing to a dumb idea like a Monday night now? Sure if someone offers sht loads of money for a Monday night they may do it, but we are a long way from that yet. In fact today we have a Fox sports exec director saying its much more likely the ninth game will be in the Sunday 6pm slot! Perfect for a Perth game.

In was only a couple of weeks ago they were saying possible new club 2025, now its possible 2027. Id take what you read with a very big pinch of salt most of the time unless its a direct quote!

No ones ignoring them, they've been discussed infinitum for the last 15 years on here!

WA attracting talent to move West
NZ2 financial viability
PNG logistics and attracting/retaining players
Bears desire to move back to NSW one day and still be a NS club with a different name

Pretty much sums up the weaknesses in the possibles

Yesterday it was $25mill, today the same guy is saying $20mill lol. Its like they are doing a WB and just plucking figures out of the air. And wouldnt be expansion without Bears being thrown in lol

What happens after the allegedly 10 years of funding? Is it fingers crossed PNG is no longer a developing nation and its inhabitants have disposable income?

Can anyone with access cut and paste please

The ARL Commission will seek a $200 million, 10-year funding guarantee from the Australian government on expansion as former Test captain Darren Lockyer called for the NRL return of the North Sydney Bears.
News Corp understands the NRL wants assurances from government powerbrokers that they will not walk away from bankrolling a bid for a Pasifika franchise to enter the Telstra Premiership as the 18th team by 2027.

That is with Telstra you dumb shit
TBf if the media are to be believed there were three tv only bids.
Paramount $600mill, Stan $500-550mill and then whatever Ch7 and Fox ended up paying. Thats the ball park target. We wont get near that this deal in 2028, unless there are three bids fighting each other, but a 20 team national comp by 2033 might close the gap considerably.

First half is just a rehash of every BS comment made so far. At the end is Locky's wishlist with no specifics.

Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese is keen to support an NRL presence in the Pacific region, with the government prepared to tip in $20-25 million annually in the interests of national security.

But the ARLC is mindful of the government not abandoning a Pasifika venture and will push for a decade-long financial commitment to ensure expanding the NRL offshore to Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and PNG is a viable exercise.

As revealed by News Corp, the NRL is ready to ramp up plans for an 18-team league and ARL Commissioner Kate Jones confirmed the code is seriously exploring a Pasifika franchise with an Australian base in Cairns.

“Pasifika is very strongly in our minds,” Jones said.

“The Federal Government are very keen to see that expansion (into the Pacific) and want to put their money where their mouth is.

“We also have 50 per cent of our players (in the NRL) from Pacific nations, so that’s a great talent base.

“There is no reason why in the future we can’t have 20 teams. Our goal is to be a truly national competition and that means expansion.”

Jones remains open to another NRL team in Brisbane’s western corridor – despite the Jets missing out to the Dolphins for the 17th licence in the most recent expansion battle two years ago.

“We are going to look at all options,” the ARL Commissioner said.

“I have a lot of empathy for the fact that rugby league has an Ipswich connection and that area is our heartland.

“We have to always make sure we keep our heartland in our decision-making.

“One thing I love about Peter V’landys’ leadership is that he never sits still, we always have to keep moving and that’s how you have to grow the game.

“As we have made perfectly clear, it won’t be at the expense of existing teams. We want to grow sustainably, so it will take time, but we are investing in the pathways to create the talent to keep our game strong.

“We won’t rush decisions. We are ambitious, but we will make sure we do this (expansion) sustainably and we do it in consultation with the clubs.”

North Sydney bosses are exploring a possible joint-venture model with a Pasifika team and NRL legend Lockyer backed the return of the Bears.

“I am an advocate of reinstating the history of the Bears,” Lockyer said.

“It doesn’t have to be in Sydney, but I would bring the Bears back into the comp.

“There’s a number of options but the NRL should do the economic studies and look at where the best option is for growth and investment in the game.

again
content made barely an ounce of difference in the last deal
NRL 380 mill
AFL 416 Mill

& its of no significance again
we got dudded & thats the end of the discussion

600 mill is about where we need to be for 2028-32

The AFL this time was announced as $4.5b over 7 years.

That includes Telstra money for internet rights ( Last deal was $60m a season) - Making roughly $400m OF the $4.5b internet rights.

Leaves $4.1b - The press release when the rights were announced stated Marvel upgrade money was included.

The Victoria government is paying $250m for that. A 50/50 split is likely.

This leaves the TV money balance at $3.8 billion across 7 years - or $550m.

Now every year the deal won't be the same. So that includes around 20% inflation for the 2031 figure - So the deal is starting at way less then $550m.

Compare that to NRL that announced a per year amount of over $400m. That one will increase each year because the total is capped in the announcement.

2023 - is $400m cash
2024 - $412m cash
2025 - $424m cash
2026 - $436m cash
2027 - $449m cash
2028 - $462m cash
2029 - $475m cash
2030 - $489m cash
2031 - $503m cash

Now you add up the same period of time.

2025-2031

AFL $3.8b
NRL $3.2b

leaves $600m difference,

The last 4 years of the NRL in that period will be the new deal. I think it gets $100m extra with the new team.

Leaves $200m difference. or $28m difference Which is about where they have sat in the past.

This looks way more because to 2 deals aren't on the same timeline

Vlandys should getting it in writing ie a contract

10 million over 20 years is better

clearly the front runner

never thought Chinese imperialism would result in a huge win for rugby league but it is what it is

Yep, great to hear they are willing to take a look at any bids that come up. In all seriousness, is there any sport in Australia, New Zealand or the Pacific right now that has that many potential options when it comes to expansion? NRL is booming and we haven't even begun on the real growth trajectory yet.

The only reason we have so many options is because we've starved Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and New Zealand of teams for no other reason than to have nine in Sydney. No other sport in the region has been stupid enough to cater to one city to the detriment of everyone else.

What’s imperialistic about building roads, bridges, hospitals, dams and transport infrastructure?

take telstra out of both of their last few deals
they're at 356 to 366 million cash
their cash went to 550 million

my point stands!
