Perth needs a Perth franchise not contaminated by Sydney partnerships with game sharing. Using a Sydney club for pathways is one thing. Anything further is ridiculous. Give WA a club that is their own. How difficult a concept is that? And as for the constant drivel here from posters deliberately flaming the discussion with nonsense, just pull your heads in thanks.

Absolutely, it's very parochial over here. But if there's even a sniff of this team being just a relocated sydney team then it's off to a bad start. They'll be asking fans who already support a team to change allegiances. I think a lot will baulk at getting behind the bears.

It is a walk before you can run type of thing Force use guys from the East Coast.

Tbh most school kids won't care, That is where you hammer with school visits etc in the aim to get them wanting to be future players, sponsors etc

I'd be flogging the Perth NRL team itself to locals, The rest of the fans can call it Bears if it helps

Why would an East Coast club put millions in to help with player development to not get anything in return though?

The Jets bid makes sense. The Bears? Piss off
Not really, if the jets are to act as a feeder club, but aren't running the 1st grade side, not using thier branding, colors, nothing really, what use are they then? A perth franchise can link with any reserve grade side for a feeder arrangement, what are the arlc going to think this bid will win with a sydney link, but not contributing the start up of the franchise, and the guiding the 1st grade side

Unfortunate opinion/perspective. Hopefully this writer is incorrect but I always felt that corporates were the biggest hurdle.

Although hopefully (at worst) it just means that they are a consideration further down the track

So why would they leave a successful partnership with Sharks to link up with a club that they have aren't in control with?
Because they probably see the potential of being linked to a club with opportunities for sponsorship with some of Australia’s biggest mining companies and which will be fully backed by the State Government. They may just be thinking outside the Sydney metropolitan square?.

They may be also thinking if Sydney clubs are being forced to run their own reserve grade sides then they will left out in the cold

I was reading an article by Ross Gittins in the SMH recently and I was stunned to read that the NZ economy only attracts on average about $2b direct foreign investment a year. I was so shocked that I looked up how much Oz gets. We`re getting north of $200b+. That says a lot about the strength of the N.Z. economy.
That article may well be right about corporates.

You asked why would an east coast club put millions into the club? Surely the Jets don't pay the sharks? Wouldn't it be the other way?

Perth IMO should be autonomous ,they had that right prior to SL. The city is big enough to be stand alone.
If we are talking a 19th & 20th team, then the Norths & Jets should be considered in a minor role partnership with a joint venture such as East Tigers, Ipswich or Adelaide down the year dot.
We can forget NZ 2 just don't think the corporate support would be there, and PNG from a practical home base point of view leaves too many questions. And the way the Feds are talking the economy is in for a rough ride, they look like cutting bank on infrastructure .
Knowing politicians since I arrived unannounced on this planet , they change places like they change underdaks.

Why would clubs like Ipswich & Brisbane easts with own clubs & history need new town & bears?!

The Jets only run a NSW Cup team, That would be a feeder club arrangement.

Still would need to get some sort of junior development system in place, For the Feeder club to run that takes money

You really are on a high aren`t you. Post after post of being upbeat. Be careful mate, remember the greater the highs the deeper the lows. I wouldn`t go counting your chickens just yet.
I’m a rugba laeague fan, when it comes to expansion I expect little and am rarely dissapointed. even more so about the game maki g shthouse decisions, our history is littered with them. i wouldnt be surprised at all of club 18 is yet another heartland club or some sht hybrid club.
