You know we are well and truely stuffed if Sunshine gets nothing. What an innings, one of the best innings I have seen under pressure.

Iron Gloves Brad Haddin might be playing his last summer. I can see the push for Tim Paine really gathering momentum. Three missed stumpings was it last night? Paine is a younger man with leadership potential and is a decent bat.

I'm amazed how quickly people have written Haddin off after last night.

Yep, he had an absolute shocker but he has been one of our few quality performers this summer.

Was it Tony Greig that was saying on the coverage yesterday that he found it bizarre that the selectors would look at last night's game as a chance to impress? Said that if they don't already know what their squad is going to be then there are problems - that no player should be picked on the back of one good performance.

Well, same goes for one shocking performance.

And I wouldn't be in that much of a rush to get Paine in there. I'm not convinced.

Its probably a chicken or the egg situation with Haddin.

Would he have grassed those 3 easy stumpings had the selectors not planted the seeds of doubt in his head?

Personally I think it showed that it was weighing on his mind, but either way it was still a shocking performance to put in when you have the next clarke/watson style selector golden child nipping at your heels.

yet Paine has only hit 1 first class hundred in his career, even guys like Hauritz, Mitch Johnson, Ashley Noffke, etc have done better than that
I'd also mention Paine's strike rate at ODI level is 62, Haddin had 1 bad game, even Gilchrist had had shockers in the past

We would be rooted if Watson was not in the team...as an OPENER! That is his best position guys. He scores well, we win, simple. As for Haddin he is poor, but and I say this as a Paine lover- surely Wade is better in ODI's anyway.

Test- Paine
ODI- Wade
T20- Paine

It is, but in ODI's it does not matter as much. Lets be honest we are looking for an opener and as good as Paine is, can we have our opener striking at 70 in a ODI? It isn't ideal, it makes Watson having to strike at 120, which is not going to help him. Wade has more runs on the board in ODI's and can open and score quickly. Paine is the better T20 and test keeper though.

I have no issue with Watson opening in the limited overs games, many middle order players have successfully opened in limited over stuff, Gilchrist, M Waugh etc, etc.

Then you started watching cricket last year. Infact, funny you say that because Michael Bevan's century against NZ @ the MCG in 01/02 was on fox last night THAT was an innings under pressure.

Watson's was a higher score and a higher chase..and unlike Bevan he wasn't able to sit on his rear end while the innings began..not to mention he bowled earlier in the day!

Wade batting is better than Paine but how much better is his keeper to Haddin? If you are ditching him you don't want the replacement doing the exact same thing.
