The most bizarre field-placing ever with one run to win....all fielders should've been up in the circle saving the single, and Dhoni gives Faulkner the easiest single of his career to win a match

Yup.

I recall the match where India could have won, but he took his time getting in, using up balks, and India fell short.

Just retire, Dhoni.

That is single-handedly most bizarre field-placing ever with one run to win....all fielders should've been up in the circle saving the single, and Dhoni gives Faulkner the easiest single of his career to win a match.

And 100% agree re:Dhoni's captaincy. Reminds me of the World Cup semi-final last year where Dhoni was just plodding along when India needed to start hitting 4s and 6s, whilst required run-rate keep shooting up

That's the game I recall!

It was bizarre to see Dhoni, a known hitter, playing that way with the match in the balance.

With India losing the match, no doubt there will be considerable attention given on their slow run-rate during the middle overs of their innings. With only 1 wicket down at the 30 over mark, in reality they should've got closer to 350 on a flat deck.

Faulkner comes in with 2 runs to win for the 1millionth time and still gets called the finisher.
There's only one Bevan mate.

100%.

They stuffed up big time - particularly because they were on top imo.

You can go back and read the thread on this forum on that match, and you will see all of us were saying at the time "Um, India really need to get a move on here. Their World Cup campaign is on the line, why is Dhoni just nonchalantly nudging around singles when India need to score at more than 10 runs an over". And yeah, Dhoni is a renown hitter and we were like all waiting for him to unleash....but it just never happened until he got out after scoring a fifty.

Since he started earning craploads of money and owning an Indian Super League franchise, noticed a huge difference in his demeanour and attitude towards his cricket, yet he never, ever gets called out on it in the media (especially the Indian fans on cricinfo). Still laugh how he gets lauded as the hero in the 2011 World Cup Final, yet it was Gambhir who set India's innings up

It was completely bizarre!

I worked with an Indian bloke, and he was in shock the next morning.

Even he gave it to Dhoni, and he was a staunch Dhoni fan.

Classy win by Australia. India well below par but Australia further demonstrating that their selection tactics are right, and that Bailey is still the best #4 option, despite critical posters on here.

Finch, full and outside off, now has to pull a rabbit out of the hat to save his career.

Good interview by Smith in the post match. He's maturing well.

Dhoni sometimes gets stuck in the mud early and really hurts his side. Which is fine if you are batting at 3 but he comes in too late for that. In a lot of ways he is quite selfish. He has played some cracking odi innings but he has also batted for his average plenty.

Yeah a bit too much Bevanball by the Indian batsmen.

Also, an opener batting through on a road has to make 200, or next to it, these days.

Dhoni is a very talented player and fans have seen in the past what he's capable of doing, but on FAR too many occasions in recent times he's been caught doing the parts in bold but as I said, never gets called out on it in the media.

He's got the "I just simply don't care" look on his face when the cameras pan on him after his bowlers are getting spanked or misfields that lead to extra runs, was plodding along during their tour of Australia last summer and seemed extremely happy to get out of the test team and retire after the 3rd (Boxing Day) test last year. And its funny how he blamed Dhawan (I think) in the press conference of the World Cup semi-final last year for getting out, yet not looking at his plodding during his own innings, let alone several other players (e.g. Gambhir, Irfan Pathan) during his captaincy who've put in far more effort than him but were used as a scapegoat and were instantly dropped the minute they produced a poor performance
