Junior goes ok to an extent...but he's one of those blokes who can never be wrong. And he's overly harsh and really harps on about the smallest thing...

BJ is just boring

I reckons Mark Waugh does OK. Straight to the point.
"Stuey, why, when the lights are on, do they go off for bad light in test cricket?"

"My bet is, even though the lights are on, we'll go off for bad light at the end of the day"

Interesting Smith dropped Ponting in SA
Gayle dropped Strauss in WI.

Captains dropping captains.

I think we are in a solid spot today. Good debut knock from North.

Poor shot from Hughes BUT he will learn from it.

Great effort in the conditions
Hughes-it can only get better from here
Katich-Struggled but conditions were tough and Steyn was bowling brilliant
Ponting-Great knock undone by a great ball
Clarke-Well played but a lazy shot
Hussey-Struggled in the conditions but will improve
North-Nice technique really elegant and possible century tonight
Haddin-Continued his ODI form

good result at the end of the day on this pitch

Hughes and Kat both out to terrible shot, should have left them on that pitch

Hopefully North has played himself into a test spot, big difference to the score giving our bowlers more of a target to chance instead of playing pretend all rounders at no 6 who cant make runs

I still cant believe McDonalds selection, we cant take 20 wickets in Australia yet we go into the first test on their home ground with 3 specialist bowlers

absolutely mind boggling

Good on North proving his selection was right atm. Just too bad we went with McDonald, he can do enough with the ball but when you bowl below 130km/h it gives the batters too much time to adjust.

We were lucky to get out of that the way we did. Ponting dropped on 40 probably averted an absolute disaster.

I really felt for Hughes, he looked to be a bundle of nerves. Think it would have been a better idea to give him a run in the one day series against New Zealand back here as that may have settled him down a bit, rather than his first International appearance being in the Bullring against the best team in the world atm. Thought it was also a bit strange that Katich didn't face the first ball as well. I would have thought that the experienced Batsman should have taken the first over from Steyne and perhaps then at least given the young bloke some sighters from the other end and a bit of a heads up on what the ball looked to be doing.

I also think Haddin should be moved up the order atm. Perhaps he should swap with Hussey. Obviously Haddin is in a rich vein of form and it would be beneficial for the team for him to come in earlier. If Hussey went down the order for a while he would have the opportunity to come in with a few more runs on the board and a bit less pressure on. Hussey seems to be struggling with the ball moving away from him atm and if he comes in a bit later the ball probably won't be swinging so much.

LMAO @ the so-called prodigy Hughes.
Man thats not a dumb post, thats a Lockyesque post.

Kid comes in and has dominated sheffield shield, averages near 60, and plays a nervous shot on debut. Hang the f**ker, clearly he isnt up to standard and should be discarded immediantly:crazy:

I remember an opener who absolutely dominated 1st class but just couldn't crack it in tests despite repeated attempts. Suddenly, everything just clicked for him and he ended up being one of the best this country has seen. Just recently retired actually.

Anyway, some d!ckheads wrote him off at the start of his test career as well, only to be force fed their words later on down the track.

The kid has the talent, he just needs the selectors to persevere with him and he'll come good. Was nervous as anything last night and it showed. Saw an opportunity to get off the mark and was drawn into a rash shot. He'll learn from it and be better for it. One thing is for sure, he'll be desperate to make up for it in the second innings.

RE: Hughes taking the first ball, perhaps he wanted to do so and in that case, well we can't blame Katich for not taking it. Yes, it was a f**king awful shot, but we all know what he's capable of and hopefully the selectors are as well and don't hang him out to dry.

North really impressed me. I know he's been scoring runs at ease for the WACA's for a long time now, but the way he handled Steyn in particular last night was incredible. 5-254 at stumps, there's no reason we can't push on and get 350-400+ IMO.

It wasn't a dumb post...I just slipped into Baiter mode...

You're only as good as your last innings...;-)

He has to prove to me he's more than just another aussie wanker...
