yeh, cuz really talented batsmen can only bat in 1 position

We won't ever agree on this. My view is very simple, we've found our long term 3, the hardest position to find. I'm not moving that player just to help another area, not when the bloke averages 60+ at 3...and same with Smith who averages close to 80 at 4.

So Burns is playing according to reports.

I’ll support him but if we bat 2nd and he has been thinking about his innings for a day and a bit in the field... with Shami and Bumrah bowling at him in twilight...

I honestly can’t see any good coming out of it. If he fails - that’s pretty much a test career done.

Easiest two batsmen to drop opening when Pucovski and Warner come in really. Would be pretty hard to pick Harris then drop him after 1 test. Least with Burns it's like "well you have 1 more chance, show something or you don't play in Melbourne"

Probably had to go Burns really.

His form his shit but he's a proper opener with pedigree. Harris is rubbish, but I do hope he plays over Wade. No way we could carry two makeshift openers either.

Cant agree with that logic at all..

It’s the first test of the series and picking a guy coz he’s easier to drop????

Pucovski has a brain like mush at the moment and no moral to play at all in the series.. and furthermore he’s only opened twice in his life..

Warner’s no guarantee of being fit in the 2nd test either.

We’ve got to pick a side to win, not to compensate for who might be available later

Maybe you could pick a guy with hideous form such as Burns if he batted 4 or lower, as the top order could get a good start and you come in under less pressure. But not an opener..

The guy has never nailed down the openers role, and being picked to face up again with some of the worst stats going into a test match I can ever recall. Watching him in the 2nd dig in the A game was watching a car crash in slow motion, it was horrible to watch.

We need to pick a team to win, not a team on incumbency from previous seasons against a mediocre opposition at the time.

Harris, Marsh are players who have scored buckets of runs in shield and would come in far more confident than Burns with the weight of the world on his shoulders with wobbly boots on.

I truly hope Burns scores good runs if he plays, I’ll support anyone who plays for my country. But this has all the earmarks of leading a lamb to the slaughter and hoping Lab n Smith can drag us out of the shit again.

Wish him well, but his terrible form and this indian attack, and a day/night pink ball test, if he gets a couple of 20's would be almost amazing

Mate I absolutely wish him well too.. But I'm picturing him trudging off after a low score and feeling absolutely sorry for the bloke - and can't imagine what would be going through his head.

Bumrah & Shami in the first test after a season of horrific failures is light years away from facing Colin De Grandhomme Matt Henry and Will Sommerville 12 months ago. Especially if Burns comes out to open under lights..

Further to that - these are Joe Burns' scores this summer.

A total of 5 runs in 4 innings against the team he'll face in the first test.

10, 11 Queensland v South Aust Adelaide 8 Nov 2020 FC
29, 0 Queensland v NSW Adelaide 30 Oct 2020 FC

I honestly can't fathom this selection.

I suspect poor Burns is as bewildered as anyone...

looks a bit like Raval was for us, more or less begging to be dropped

seems weird to not play Marsh and Harris with the expectation that Davey and the kid will be available soon and come in no matter what the fill ins do

Well Burns is the incumbent. And he does have a test average around 40 with centuries, something Harris can't claim because he isnt up to that level of cricket.

I'd pick Harris and Burns, but if for some insane reason they're set on Wade I'd rather Burns than Harris

Yeah I like Burns, but the form line is devastating... hopefully he goes ok

thought I’d read Harris and Marsh were in form atm

They are but I'd be hesitant to hold Shield form on a pedestal, given they're playing on grade cricket grounds against largely weakened attacks. Harris managed a tough 239 in an unbeaten 400+ run stand at Glenelg Oval against the worst attack in the Shield, for example

do you really think those numbers mean anything ?

compared to other batting positions, who was bowling, was it home or away, was it first or second innings, pace or spin, left arm or right arm , what were the pitch conditions?

its not stats its raw unanalyzed data, when you consider that the no 3 batsman can be facing a ball before the no 2 does

If it takes an ounce of pressure off our two best bats let’s bat them in the position they excel at. Happy with the team named
