Well Burns is the incumbent. And he does have a test average around 40 with centuries, something Harris can't claim because he isnt up to that level of cricket.
I'd pick Harris and Burns, but if for some insane reason they're set on Wade I'd rather Burns than Harris
Harris and Burns makes more sense to me than a horribly out of form Burns and Wade up from 6.
But on Harris - He had a great series against India (his debut) two summers ago - the highest run scorer against arguably the best Indian attack to tour here. But he subsequently struggled in England - not the first Aussie to do so - which dragged his average down. I think he’s more than up to it personally.
So they went back to Burns last summer..after dropping him previously. And he was ok enough without doing anything great - against a plodding attack from NZ - minus Southee n Bolt for the most part. They opened with De Grandhomme FFS... who still nailed Burns a few times. His centuries are well behind him (his last from memory against possibly the worst Sri Lankan side in its history to come here) and he didn’t face England in England or India in 2018.
So yes, Burns is the incumbent. From an ordinary NZ team last series where he didn’t set the world alight.
But that said, loads of batsman scored a truck loads of runs in shield. So if scoring loads of shield runs (like Harris has) is devalued- surely not scoring runs like Burns should be alarming - flashing blue lights and whaling sirens.
Harris and Wade is the best of a tough selection for mine. With about 5-6 others before even considering Burns. Like Marsh, Khawaja, Hughes, even look at Bancroft..
But whoever they go with I’ll hope they score runs. Lab n Smith can’t keep carrying the load forever..
