Matthew Elliott was a decent batsman who would have played more tests if he had acted like Langer and sucked up to Steve Waugh. Waugh and Elliott were not good mates.

Australia v Sri Lanka archive time, does anyone remember this match?

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/64091.html

It confirmed two things:

1. Matthew Elliot was the worst batsman to ever play for Australia

2. Lasith Malinga was a destructive force as a bowler in world cricket with that slinging action of his
Kasprowicz killed it in that test as well.

As for Elliott he was great in the 1997 Ashes. Two 100s and two 50s including a 199. He could have really been something but just never kicked on.

And Horrie, that did not kill his career. That was in his 2nd test. He played another 19 after it.

FMD i don't know why i bother with you..I must like smashing my head up against brick walls..

The guy was never the same again..

It killed his career..
He read it on Cricinfo and Statsguru so it must be true

And i agree he was never quite the same player again, and when he came back he had to bat at 3 for a time which didn't suit him.

Leading runscorer in the 1997 Ashes (scored 103 runs more than the next best English or Australian batsman) suggests that's incorrect.

Steve Waugh in his autobiography said Elliott had temperamental issues. He didn't kick on because he lacked the mental strength.

Yep mate..He was okay when he came back, but never got that confidence back he had pre-injury..

He was going to be anything before destroying his knee..

The Waugh brothers had a habit of colliding with team mates & destroying their careers..

Any one who paid attention to Elliot's career knows that destroying his knee farked his career..

He had one brief spurt of form after that, but that was it..The injury destroyed his confidence,& his career..

I'm stunned at how many things you get wrong..as often as you do..

That takes some form of talent i guess..

So i reckon you are the most talented genius on this forum..possibly anywhere..

Gillespies leg ran into Steve Waughs face. Gillespie was worse off. Because Steve Waugh was just that tough.

Back on topic, I'm not stressed here. I think we'll rip through them tomorrow easily.

I love the spin of referring to same style of batsmen as accumulator when it suits and plodder when it doesn't
