looks like Gayle should probably play after all

Gayle in line for first Test return

The West Indies have received a major boost with Chris Gayle, the West Indies captain, due to fly back to Australia in time for Thursday's first Test. Gayle will leave the Caribbean on Monday after his mother was allowed to leave hospital following a serious heart problem.
Gayle went home to Jamaica before the tour match last week to be with her and will face a disrupted preparation. He is due to land in Brisbane just a day before the three-game series begins.
The news is still a huge help to the West Indies, who are rebuilding following a players' strike and need another senior player to support Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul in the batting order. Gayle has been twittering while in the Caribbean and his last post confirmed his mother was fine. "As I tweet doc call an say she can leave tonight even better, just want to thank everyone for prayers an support an best wishes."
A West Indies team spokesman said: "Chris will rejoin the team so clearly that's good news for everyone. We are happy his mum is doing well."

Maybe he can bat down the order at 6, that should buy him 30-40 min acclimatisation time :sarcasm:

no team is stupid enough to bat for 3 days in their first innings, if they are still in they would declare around tea of the second day

plus the extra 30-40min batting at no6 :D
:lol: to be fair, I'd give them an hour (Australia's bowling isn't what it used to be)

I do hope Windies come out to play and we see a bit of competition happening, they would definitely need Gayle to come out and fire for that to happen, I have faith in international cricket and hope he does

For sure

I mentioned earlier, if one or two of our bowlers dont get it right (im looking right at siddle and johnson), If Hilfy cant do anything then the WI have the batting to post 400 plus totals easily. Plus with the weather being hot, could be closer than we all think

I dont see the point of Hauritz, the curator says you have to play a spinner as it will break on the last day or 2, but its highly unlikely the game will last that long

To show that we can still slaughter an under strength side..... and in doing so increase the sale of Ashes tickets through false form.
or to show that Australia can still struggle against an understrength side because the Aussie selectors don't know what they're doing and Australia's captain is a dud

You think Clark played well in his last test..FMD North looked a better bowler!
I dont think Clark bowled particularly well no, im contending with your comment that he has always been useless on flat pitches, because it was a f**king stupid comment! Flat pitches are not why he struggled, it was more to do with the effect of injuries on his ability to generate pace.

Ding ding ding!!! We have a winner, and after we flog 2 understrength teams this summer the selectors and Ponting can tell us we are back on track and they are doing a good job

These tests are crucial for spinners- it gives them confidence. Plus I hate it when we play 4 quicks let alone 5 with Watson!
