In which neither city is becoming team 18 hahaha..
Govts paying for a team, RL would be stupid not to take free money and build a team with it, they can still go to Christchurch and Perth for teams 19 & 20
But right now the warriors are on an upward trend, and dolphins need to solidify in SEQ, so no more teams NZ or SEQ for the next one... and Perth has potential, but they aren't flush with local talent enough to trade out to be affective in boosting the player pool, PNG is the only place they go, and they physically don't want it based there with its security woes, ala next team is in Cairns under a pasifika title
PNG isnt even "pacifika" though, you'll have all the issues of unions poor attempt plus the added identity crisis of clubs like wests and saints, then throw in that it'd be completely reliant on gov funding not running dry, the high amount of weekly long distance travel, difficulty attracting non-png talent (and keeping png talent), and then the potential for a fan to be literally killed during a game and its riddled with problems from the get go

this png team might be what the government wants but its very unlikely its what the NRL wants, hopefully they are asking for that funding to be spent elsewise

Why the f**k would they send a small and irrelevant club like Manly to play in Las Vegas?

Brisbane Broncos vs South Sydney Rabbitohs would be the best fixture for Las Vegas. One is owned by the world's largest media mogul and is the biggest club in the world. The other is owned by a Hollywood celebrity.

Have

Russel Crowe and every member of the Murdoch family should be in attendance for a Broncos vs Rabbitohs game. Americans will be more likely to take our game seriously when they see it's linked with the Murdochs.

RUGBY UNION is shit, show me the Rugby League example, who would always does it better
Here's an example..
Not representing a specific city, a specific region or country! Based in a random city wondering why it doesn't have support... you really need a Rugby league example of the dumbest idea eva ?
Maybe the Tongans hate it because it represents Samoa! Maybe the Samoans hate it because it represents Tonga! Maybe the Tongans and Samoans hate it because it's Based in NZ and maybe the people in NZ! ( THE ONE'S WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO GO TO THE GAME!) hate it because it represents anywhere but there 😳 ...
You can't make this shit up!
But after all that... they suck.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I thought the Union guys were supposed to be smart 😳🤣

So you want a League version... just to be sure?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Well yeah they are pretty shit example that union team... how many papuans are playing in that moana team? Either way the idea was for a team for the region, built from the pathways of the Pacific islands and PNG, somewhere where there is a direct route for those kids to streamline upto, your talking about making cultural diversity and representing a race of people... thats what international football is, and its the same mistake the warriors made by trying to recruit nz only players, when a club team doesn't and shouldn't be beholden by that, yes we can set up pathways to it, the 1-17 that take the field are the best of the club roster

Toronto Wolfpack was a huge missed opportunity whilst I’m not to sure about the Ottawa aces long term finances.

As for New York that was floated by a crank former PE teacher and kitman of the Huddersfield giants.
Png is our Toronto Wolfpack

With outside funding making the team possible

I was gutted for Toronto they ostracised David argyle when they should’ve welcomed him

They got a whole new demographic watching super league and their marketing strategies were amazing

Moana pasifika says hi

Moana Pacific don’t get 25 million pa from the Australian govt and 18 millon pa from the nrl

the nrl can put a team in basically anywhere it wants and it will work. With the feds on top the club will be. Powerhouse

don't think anyone was at risk of being murdered or seriously assaulted in canada

how exactly is Toronto anything like port Moresby other than being in a different country to the comp?

I mentioned in my post (Toronto Wolfpack were wholly funded by an Aussie David argyle)

and the bjt about being murdered is bs the team will be based in cairns

this narrative is tiresome

but playing in PNG? how safe do you think it would be for an away teams supporters if they put 50 on them, have a bit to drink and look at someone the wrong way?

how do you think it will look when the media have their way death riding the NRL for that?

the government has its own reason for wanting this team and its got nothing to do with the betterment of the NRL, PNG will for sure one day have a team based there but there's just too many societal issues to have one now, and basing them in Aus IMO defeats the entire purpose - see Moana, based in Auckland the unofficial capital of the pacific but struggling for support even by RU standards.

If that doesn't raise red flags for the NRL then people really aren't paying attention.

Domestic clubs shouldn't be ethnically based & Clubs that try to cover to many different areas never end up working

there's really only one pro for this PNG concept, and its likely finite, whereas there is numerous cons

doesnt matter how much either pasifika sides get the concept is still shite and will always have a poor following because it’s a mishmash cobbled together team.

I agree that’s why perth and Christchurch are a must.

It is but it’ll mostly be a png team

I hope they drop the pacifika bit then it’ll be perfect

it looks like 20 teams is a good chance and those other two with south west Brisbane are the choices

It won’t be ethnically based it will play games in those nations

I doubt many Aussies will travel to png games but security at the ground will obv be an issue

With outside funding making the team possible

The best outcome all round would be for Port Moresby to take the billions of Chinese yuan which would raise the living standards of your average Papuan over the next 20-30 years allowing a standalone PNG franchise entering the NRL in 2045.
