20 team comp with talent coming from the US

Come back to us when this flow of 23 year old US college graduates are signing up for the NRL. Until then we'll park this 'idea' in the same basket as every other time RL and USA have been mentioned in the same sentence.
Be " we'll " you mean you.. a pom living in WA.. 5000km away from an NRL franchise, that knows nothing about the NRL the NFL the US or Australia..

We understand why you are less than optimistic... you pick the 1 place in Australia that couldn't be further from an NRL franchise 🤦‍♂️ as a RL fan... f**k that's dumb.

A few years ago the deluded twerps from the fumblers thought they could expand internationally by giving teams parts of the planet to target. From memory Essendon had India. I am not making this up. Now that is stupid. Targeting athletes from a game not that distant from our own may not be simple but it isn’t as stupid as that. What it requires is a full hearted strategy to be adopted across the top tier clubs. It has potential and it is definitely worth a go.
Yeh I can imagine them giving up cricket for afl

Nothing wrong with targeting un-drafted college football players but why aren’t we targeting South African Union schoolboy talent like we do with NZ union schoolboy talent?
We'll have them all soon enough hahaha ( stoke cat) mmuhahaha
Mmmmuhahaha
Ok that’s enough.

So let's unpack your latest optimism.
Firstly they aren't 1000 to 1. These are premium athletes at their physical peak in the best training facilities in the world, at the cutting edge of sport science .
Our 2 biggest stars went there just to tap into their science around recovery.
These are the biggest, fastest, most agile, strongest... the best f**king athletes in the world! You think..1000 to 1 🤔🤦‍♂️
And 1 to 2 years? ... yeah ! Outside of 6 and 7 what makes our game so good is it isn't complicated!!!
An already pro athlete learning 1 one the most basic sports is easy!
They play 1 of the most complicated, they will find it easy.

The next thing is, it isn't just players he's talking about. A couple of players that made a small impact at a college level trying their hands down under at a collision sports will spark interest from fans and broadcasters in the US .
Do you remember how many Australians turned in to watch Hayne?? Btm making the switch the other way- more complicated sport... at a later age .. and making it to the NFL.
Thank god we have PVD , otherwise we'd be stuck with some narrow minded Muppet.
The thing is you’re thinking we’d have any chance of getting those elite athletes is just not realistic. I follow American football from college to pros and firstly most of the guys who you’d have a chance of getting are mostly likely going to be redshirt seniors so 23-24 years old, in todays NFL anyone who has prototypical size-speed even if they’re not very good will get drafted in the later rounds or sign on as an undrafted free agents or go to CFL or XFL. By the time one of these guys comes to the realisation they’re not going to make the NFL they’ll probably be around 26 or 27 years of age and you need to teach them rugby league from scratch. Best case scenario and they miraculously pick up the game to first grade level in 12 months they’re making their debut at 27 or 28 years of age

Exactly its bs. Its like Vlandys thinks you can get these kids at 18.

I can only think he is trying to head off the "not enough playing talent' argument that was inevitable after talking up 20 clubs by showing NRL has some out of the box ideas. It would have been far better if he had actually got a strategy for player development that made sense and had $'s attached to it ready to go!!

Imagine if after announcing 20 possible clubs the next day the NRL held a press conference and released a new development pathways strategy for PNG, Australia and NZ and committed $20mil a year to it.

It would have shut down the negative, 'not enough players' mob and made them look like they actually know what they are doing and not just coming out with spur of the moment brain fart ideas!

The college basketball comparison is just ridiculous for so many reasons. Firstly college basketball players tend to leave college a lot earlier and many now are bypassing college with the NBL now seen as a legitimate developmental league to get into the NBA and more importantly they’re playing the same sport

You're an idiot.

So Rugby League makes headlines in every paper in the country... it's free publicity and the intrigue an speculation will build.
You want him to announce everything at once.. what is this amateur hour ?

He's planting the seed mate.
He literally said they have done no work, have no data and its just an idea worth investigating. Then talks about college football ffs.
Wheres teh player development strategy that goes with this amazing expansion plan?
Why are we still seeing $25mill a year cut out of grass roots funding when the games running at a surplus?
Whya re developing areas having to cut elite development programs becuase their funding ahs been cut?
Why are NZRL still getting a pittance in support when we can all see it should be a major RL development area?

He didnt plant a seed, he spat out a brainfart with nothing behind it

So the Chairman of the arlc supporting the move to 20 teams should be a reason to be happy then

no need to feel threatened for the afl
Like so many people a lot of users on this forum are terminally online like yourself which leads to bizarre posts like this. What have the AFL got to do with any of this? You like you stupid friend in this thread are literally obsessed with AFL.

Again unlike most of the mouth breathers on this forum I’m actually pro expansion and have been since I joined the forum like 15 years ago. My post history speaks for itself.

Calling dumb suggestions like this pie in the sky has nothing to do with being for or against expansion and nothing to do with the AFL.

Billy the kid- making the nrl smaller!

The Australian Government says hello.
Why did you respond to my post 2 seperate times? One idiotic post was enough.

The 2 of you seriously need to get a room.
