If Sydney clubs are going to have to financially rely on crowds to survive they are f***ed!

ps stop blaming ANZ stadium, your clubs have chosen to play there!

I think crowds such as Friday night's at both Penrith and the SFS have proven that ANZ is not completely to blame. I agree with everyone's sentiments about it being a sh*t place to watch football, especially when crowds are low. But Friday night had a game in a big inner-city stadium, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it's pretty easy to get too. Two Sydney clubs were playing and although the Bulldogs are sh*t, there is certainly a bit of history between the clubs (see earlier clash this season). And what happens?? We get 9k, virtually the same as the last few crowds at ANZ. Pretty dissapointing really. I just think this shows that ANZ cops a bit more then it deserves. The reality is that people just aren't turning up anywhere, bar Queensland.

And yes, I know rugby league is better on TV. But ffs, I'm a Melburnian with an AFL background, relatively new to RL, yet I go to virtually all our (Storm) home games.

Normally expect more on a sunny sunday arvo at Leichhardt

Mate I appreciate you're not having a dig but just for one season, no one game, try supporting a side that is sh*t (Souths) or sh*t and gutless (Tigers) and contemplate whether you'd still have the same ardor for attending games. The Tigers have been a complete farce for 9 years, bar 16 weeks of excellence. I commend all 15k Tigers supporters for maintaining interest in the ground-whoring, incompetently administered club.

You were having a go at Sydneysiders making excuses for low crowds when just a couple of posts above you were doing the exact same thing wrt the AFL on the GC.

You wont hear me making excuses for AFL games that are played in AFL heartland though! We get 20,000 people to a game in Melbourne and its back page news for being so bad, NRL gets 20,000 to a game and its applauded.

My explanations for the low crowds in the Gold Coast are clear facts, not excuses. You cannot compare a North Melbourne game being played in the Gold Coast to the Gold Coast playing in the Gold Coast. Apples and oranges.

Unfortunately to be fair we can only compare how both Gold Coast teams draw crowds in both comps and we have to wait a couple of years for that. Should be interesting.

In the meantime can Sydney RL supporters please toughen up and SUPPORT their teams by actually going to the games.

Not a bad crowd for Tigers considering they were playing a NZ team. Again it is a good job it was a sunny day though and shows that 15-17,000 is prob the max the Tigers could hope to draw at that ground as an average.

re the Warriors, maybe more could be done to entice the thousands of Kiwis in Sydney to support them at games played in Sydney. A Warriors Sydney membership club with 1/2 price admission for anyone with a NZ passport? These are the sort of marketing initiatives the NRL needs to come up with, not sharing double headers with ARU!

Do you mean if Wests played out of Leichhardt as the sole home ground? It will never happen, nor is there any reason to speculate about it :? The average attendance for Leichhardt games over the past 4 seasons has stabilised at 17-18k. The figure is inflated due to the scarcity of games played at the venue, nonetheless, it's a decent amount given the um "talent" of the side...

Seriously... is shaming people into going to games sure to work? There's got to be better ways to convince people.

Titans crowd was great...get that up way AFL

Parra was good considering melbourne and no origin players

how good is a sunday arvo at leichardt...another great crowd out there

Once again Roosters supporters are a blight to the game..sooner roosters are relocated the better

Why not compare it a North Queensland and Bulldogs game that set the crowd record at Carrara a few years ago. Or any of the other NRL games not involving a GC team that packed in capacity crowds.

The people of the GC got out to Carrara to support the NRL regardless of the teams playing. They aren't doing this for the AFL because, surprise surprise, they don't want an AFL team.

The GC has literally had tens of thousands of Vic immigrants since the 80's yet the AFL cannot crack 10,000 crowds for two Vic teams playing here. If that doesn't tell you that something is wrong then I don't know what will.

Parra crowds are farked.

They've gradually reduced the capacity of Parra Stadium over the years and they might as well keep on reducing it.

Parra would look better if the top deck which the camera's focus on wasn't there.

Out of the 26000+ crowd at skilled last night, would have been more than at least 8-10,000 in red and white. Bloody great night at skilled.

And you can only get 6k to go to a home game versus penrith. I was at GC airport at lunch time on Saturday and their were red v jumpers everywhere.

They complain ANZ is too far away from Kogarah but are happy to fly 1000km for a game, very strange...

Is it more about the strip clubs and the grog than the football??

I dare say it's a "home ground" they aren't used to that they're upset about
