LOL chief looks like such a goober in it.
Good to see they are actually going to discuss some games after the break though - nice change up.

I just think it's painful. It's hard to watch without feeling embarrassed for him.
im most people would happily trade any media savyness they have for his football ability...

BTW.... i cant stand the roosters but your sig is the sh*t...

That star panel gabfest with SBW, MJohns, Kearney and Slater was painful.

SBW mouthing off again about Poly's dominating the NRL and soon Origin was poor. He just doesn't seem to think very highly of Aussies. Add MJohns as his sycophant. Could see Billy Slater squirmy in his seat during SBW's fourth reich vision for rugby league.

Ratings for last night's show was just 246,000 is Sydney and 137,000 in Brisbane and is gradually sliding down to last year's figures.

And they were discussing Polynesians a few weeks back in the Star Chamber with Gus Gould, not sure why the felt the need to rehash it again last night.

How was he mouthing off?
Fatty said a pretty racist thing(about Souths losing because the team is full of Polynesians).
I couldn't believe he said it actually,to be honest.

I know that Sonny Bill struggles in front of the camera but when he does actually speak it's actually quite intelligent.
He thinks before he speaks, others should learn from that.

He didn't say it. He said people say it. Big difference.

However, he was pretty racist when he was talking about how alot of parents think it's dangerous to put their "Aussie" kids up against the "Islander" kids.

Just what the hell does he reckon the "Islander" Kids are? Indonesian?

Fatty, despite the way he acts, is in fact a very smart person. Either no one has bothered to brief him how to not talk like a closet racist, or he simply doesn't pay attention.

Yeah, fair point - But how is one going to act when you say that to someone?
It was a pretty dumb question.

Yeah I agree with you there, but that question annoyed me also and smacked of racism.
As Matty said, there has always been big kids in sports, what are the parents supposed to do? Stop their kid playing the sport because they're too big?

The question basically had no room for an interesting discussion in the answer - Instead Fatty could have said "Sonny Bill, how do you feel about young Polynesian kids playing football, some of these kids are quite big,do you think parents should be intimidated by that factor?"

I know Fatty would never say that, but to me the whole show is let down because Fatty(and sometimes Chief) do not ask the question properly and pretty much have answered their own question.

The question was pertinent because it's something a lot of people say and it was interesting to hear what two of the games most prominent Islanders had to say about it. In the context of what was being discussed I felt it was a great question.

The question about 'big kids' was also a good one, but Fatty's delivery was bloody hopeless. Just because it's a stupid concern on the part of parents doesn't mean it's not a big concern for an awful lot of them.

Anyone with half a brain can realise that the NRL is heading the way of American Football, although by way of Polynesians, not African Americans. People not concerned about AFL and soccer in Western Sydney really should start to think more. Rugby league on the North Shore and Northern Beaches is so much a minority sport it is laughable.

Junior Gridiron in the USA is still pretty big...And the NFL is the biggest sporting league on the planet.

I am not denigrating the NFL in any way, or the demographics - it is just the way it is, but Australia is different as it has 4 football codes. America only has 2 and with a rapidly growing Hispanic population, soccer is growing very quickly. I will be interested to see where soccer is in 15 years when the Hispanic population makes up a quarter of the US.

The same place it is now. You're looking at generations before Soccer could hope to infiltrate the School and University programs of the USA to pose any kind of threat to American Football at the elite level.

I thought Matty's suggestion re 5m rule had a lot of merit. Lets hope the administrators of junior league were watching. The other thing that should be introduced IMHO is weight restrictions/categories.

Thought Sonny did well considering he gets nervous & it was bit of a touchy subject.

Don't like this idea. There is 2 ways it can be done, just grade the players on weight, which leaves you with potentially having 11 year olds playing with 15 year olds, it just won't do the younger guys any good.

But if you decide to do age and weight eg Under 12s, <50kg and >50kg, you'll have kids who are 49kgs playing prop in one comp, and they'll play it through their junior grades, but when they get to higher age groups which become open weight, they'll no longer be a prop, so their junior years would of been a waste. Same with the heavier kids, having a halfback who is huge, when the 2 weight classes end, they'll potentially get shifted to the forwards, and their past years would of been useless.
