Sterlo saying make the game more exciting again will make the game sell itself more was spot on
Bevis and Butthead(fitzsimons) were a waste of time in the starchamber

Yes, I agree with Sterlo there. There needs to be some onfield rule changes to the actual game of Rugby League. The question is: What are those onfield changes going to be?

One thing I would definitely like to see removed is the whole wrestling crap in the tackles. A solution to that could be to bring back the 5m rule.

Can't believe some of you were happy with what Gallop said. He only ever talks down the game, and that attitude sets the tone for everybody else.

We need a CEO who talks up the game, talks that we will look at expansion. Helps areas like Perth by forcing teams like the Bulldogs, Tigers etc, move there poor drawing fixtures to those areas to help create the interest.

At the moment nothing is happening, and the way Gallop came across, it looks like we are about to get 5 years more of the same.

I do want to see that commision setup that has no bonds to any team, remove self interest, up the money for teams to relocate to $20-30mil. And most importantly, get Peter Sterling on the board for the rules, and remove anyone with club affliation from that process.

Yeah, I disagree with Paul Vautin's and David Gallop's sentiments that we should forget about Perth and Adelaide. Those are areas that have potential for a lot of growth (eg crowds of Perth in 1st season and also the local WA comp crowd figures at the time and also Adelaide, when they folded, they had 7,000 members, which is more than what more than 50% of teams in the NRL have). It is a gamble that needs to be taken, IMO.
Union only started playing test matches in Perth when the Reds dissolved at the end of 1997. They took a gamble: there was no Union roots or foundation stones there, and now, they've got a team in the Super 14 there that has over 15,000 members and getting good crowds to matches.

So, yes, we should focus on our own backyard, but at the same time, we've gotta look outside the square we live in. Even AFL will be expanding into Rugby League territory, with teams in Western Sydney and Gold Coast. Until we expand in Perth (at least) and Adelaide, we can't really call ourselves the "NATIONAL" Rugby League.

Yep, that's the main rule that needs to go. So much time/energy is spent on this wrestle bullsh*t... the dominant tackle, the submission tackle - all rules brought in to justify that direction in the game, instead of eliminating it for something more entertaining for fans.

Simple "held - one one thousand, two two thousand, three three thousand" calls, and blow the whistel if the player isn't stading to his feet, untouched, and in the action of playing the ball. That'll get rid of all this stupid wrestling, and bring back the flari to the game.

And something about ball security, changing that rule (back) again. All this checking with the video ref every time there is a dropped ball is ridiculous. Change the rule and make the players keep the pill secure, just like in the old days.

And that "no separation" grounding rule for video ref tries. Get rid of that nonsense, and make players actually score tries again, retaining control of the ball, not just getting a lcuky finger tip touch.

There's three for free.

I don't know about you guys, but don't you get sick of hearing the ref always yelling throughout the match, "HELD!! DOMINANT!!!!!! LET GO!!!! OUT!!!!". It's something I've noticed. I don't ever recall hearing refs when I first started watching league on tv. I think out of all the sports in the world, Rugby League is probably the one where you hear the ref more than the ref in any other sport during a match.

Err, the Tigers already whore out their home games to the highest bidder.

Perhaps it would be wise to help create interest amongst our own fans before we decide to p1ss away more home games, FFS.

Anyone find it ironic they have Tim Freedman on when one of the key lines of "Duffy's Song" (one of the Whitlams' tracks) is I don't believe in Bondi, I don't believe in Rugby League...?

Good ol' Footy Show, never letting us down :sarcasm:

Me. I thought they would sing it...

I was expecting a lot more. I think this forum has brought much better debate and ideas in the last week. Pretty much learned nothing. And that Gallop... I swear, how can anyone have confidence in a man who looks like his self esteem is lower than a 4 year old orphan.

I didn't watch it but caught the last bit with Voss pounding Gallop.

Thought it was invasion of the body snatchers for Vossy. Good effort.

Voss was ok. But I understand peoples positions...how can anyone ask Gallop a real question when he looks offended half the time. He should realize that its not his right to be respected as the CEO. He should be fearing his job instead of looking like hes just been wounded when a question deemed to be "tough" is asked. Such a plonker. Andrew Demetriou would have nailed Voss left and right

Was I close with this? Didn't see Fitzsimons on...

"Here you go, no need to even watch, this will be a summary of what Fitzsimons says:-

1. He will be at great pains to point out he is a "big fan of rugby league".

2. The aim of this lie is to give some credence to the attacks to follow.

3. He will avoid commenting on the fact that the money currently in French union is really a direct result of the 2007 RUWC and will soon disappear, much as the ARU's 2003 war chest has evaporated.

4. He will then state that the NRL cannot compete with French "rugby", never using the world "union", and make outlandish claims about how every rich person in France must own a union team (despite the fact it is dwarfed by soccer).

5. He will probably throw in a comment about union having players "poached" by RL, without explaining the actual nature of the historical split of 1895.

6. He will make absolutely no comment WHATSOEVER about the disgraceful history of French rugby union and its alignment with Vichy and how the wealth of the French union is, in part, built on the back of the money taken from RL (much like the US economy's strength cannot be separated from the economics of slavery in the 1800s).

Did I miss anything???"
