No Channel 9 games YET AGAIN for the Raiders. f**k I hate Channel 9. Someone should blow the merkins up.

FTA games so far:

Dragons 4
Broncos 4
Roosters 4
Eels 3
Sea Eagles 3
Storm 2
Rabbitohs 2
Tigers 2
Warriors 1
Cowboys 1
Titans 1
Bulldogs 1
Sharks 1
Knights 1
Panthers 0
Raiders 0

Now, Channel 9 say that form governs who they pick... so let's see how our Channel 9 favourites fared last year (especially given the "form" qualifier, and the fact that the ladder is the only way to tell that for the first 5 rounds)

1. Storm (2 games)
2. Sea Eagles (3 games)
3. Sharks (1 game)
4. Roosters (4 games)
5. Broncos (4 games)
6. Raiders (0 games)
7. Dragons (4 games)
8. Warriors (1 game)

9. Knights (1 game)
10. Tigers (2 games)
11. Eels (3 games)
12. Panthers (0 games)
13. Titans (1 game)
14. Rabbitohs (2 games)
15. Cowboys (1 game)
16. Bulldogs (1 game)

The Raiders are the only top 8 team not to get a FTA game, further disproving Channel 9's assertion that the games are chosen on form. The sooner Channel 9 is removed from the role of chief rugby league destroyer the better.

When channel 9 says that "form" dictates the allocation of FTA games, they are likely talking about the ratings draw of each club - a clubs on-field performance would be secondary to that as far as they are concerned.

3pm starts for Sunday footy on Ch9 now....??

Does this have something to do with ESL coverage they have acquired...??

rubbish stuff
parra get 3 TV and played like balls all last year, they were a rubbish footy side in every sense of the word and finished well outside the 8... canberra play an open, expansive game, entertaining for all concerned and we finished 6th despite the worst injury toll in the league and plenty of off field drama to contend with... still not FTA coverage... Nein's reign continues

As Canberra know only too well, making the NRL finals does not equal more valuable free-to-air TV time.
The Raiders, who have been perennially under-represented on the free-to-air, will not feature in any of the Nine Network's opening 15 games of 2009 - despite finishing sixth this year.
Contrast that with St George Illawarra, who finished one rung below Canberra on the ladder.
Wayne Bennett's new side will run out in front of the Nine cameras in four of the opening five rounds.
Parramatta, who didn't even make the top eight, will feature in three of the opening five weekends on free-to-air - the same number as premiers Manly.
Canberra aren't the only side to miss out, though, with third-placed Cronulla scoring only one game, their grudge match with the Dragons at Jubilee Oval in round three.
Apart from the Dragons, the big winners are Brisbane and the Sydney Roosters who will also feature on Nine in four of the opening five rounds.
Newcastle will have cause to start checking the long range weather forecast with their opening round match at Gold Coast on March 15 scheduled for a sun-stroke-friendly 1pm kick-off.
Most eyes, though, will be on the round one Friday night clash between St George Illawarra and Melbourne as Bennett attempts to improve the Dragons' 2-6 record at Olympic Park and write a new chapter in a rivalry stemming from the controversial 1999 grand final, which the Storm won with a penalty try in the dying minutes.
Nine's opening round Sunday game will be the traditionally fierce derby between the Roosters and South Sydney.

Yeah, it stinks.
Probably partly one of the reasons why the raiders are continually spoon favourites each year as well, not seen as much as others and fly under the radar somewhat - in reverse so to speak.

Friday

Roosters vs. Broncos Sydney Football Stadium 7.35pm CH9

All very smart choices above IMO. R1 Broncos/Cows always packs out and rates well as the season opener, same with R2 Broncos/Storm the following week, should be a cracker after that epic semi this year.

Bulldogs & Pamfers Saturday night is good, better than Friday for that fixture anyway. Warriors finally getting on FTA early on = :thumb

R3, good to see Nein giving us an early shot given we're the best rating FTA team behind Brisbane. Rabbits v Knights on Sunday arvo @ Bluey should be a nice arvo by the water, and Dragons v Sharks @ Kogarah on a Sunday arvo speaks for itself.

R4 - Broncos v Dragons FNF... always a brilliant match. Knights v Sea Eagles @ EAS was lost last year by being shunted to 5:30, good to see it on a Sunday arvo now.

R5 - Good to see tradition continued with Roosters/Broncos.

The Bad:
Round 1 - March 13 - 16
Friday

Bulldogs vs. Sea Eagles ANZ Stadium 7.30pm FOX

Round 2 - March 20 - 23
Friday

Rabbitohs vs. Eels ANZ Stadium 7.35pm CH9
Monday
Sharks vs. Knights Toyota Stadium 7.00pm FOX

Round 5 April 10 – 13 (Easter)
Good Friday
Eels vs. Dragons Parramatta Stadium 7.35pm CH9
Easter Saturday
Cowboys vs. Titans Dairy Farmers 7.30pm FOX
Easter Monday Night Football
Bulldogs vs. Rabbitohs ANZ Stadium 7.00pm FOX

I don't mind us missing out on Nein, but how aren't the Sea Eagles on FTA for R1?

R2, Rabbitohs v Eels Friday night? Please. Dragons v Titans or Sharks v Knights... hell even Raiders/Roosters would be a better pick.

R5 is a calamity. Breaking the new tradition the Dogs & Rabbits had started which pulled good crowds, all in favour of Parra/Saints? Please. Don't get me started on a QLD face-off being pushed to the back end of Saturday night.

For me the most disappointing thing about the Raiders missing out on free to air is that if they continue where they left off last season they play one of the most exciting brands of league which is what the NRL should be promoting.

As a Warriors fan it looks like good news. By my counting it means 4 of the first 5 rounds will also have foxtel showing the Warriors U20 matches which the Eagles Ch9 game the only exception. The time difference really works in the favour of Warriors fans when it comes to the U20.

Definitely, maybe it was blind optimism, but i thought given our outstanding run into the semis, inspite of a crippling injury toll that had us playing a backrower at halfback, and we still played expansive, exciting and entertaining footy... i thought that under the radar thing would die out with the end of the 08 season
It's not so much that we're not getting FTA games that sh*ts me, if we were not being picked over sides like Melbourne, Manly, Sharks etc, fine and dandy but clubs that finished WELL below us are getting coverage...

I started following the club because i saw them on FTA and decided that was my team, we're being denied to oppertunity to expand our fan base in this manner now, as the figures showed in the other thread, it's hurting our bottem line
