Great job by Souths. Given the number of St George fans around Australia they need to work harder on non ticketed memberships.

Surprised the Broncos don't have more that 15,000 members.

Great work by souths and their fans!

Why are most the other clubs struggling to get these numbers?

When you look at sydney clubs most of them only have around 12,000 fans. Averages are boosted by playing inter Sydney games and the odd derby/novelty round/venue. If you consider generally the crowd is made up of around 50-60% ticket holders at the moment then you can see why memberships are low.

We are playing catch up on membership culture and it is great to Sth's leading the way for others to follow.

don't St George have the highest ticketed memberships?
Maybe the semantics of "Sydney-based" comes into it. Saints also have the Gong so aren't strictly-speaking Sydney based.

Anyway I thought Cronulla were the highest. blacktip-reefy says their current membership stands at 20,000

While all kudos to them and their marketing team for getting 15k members, I'd love to know where they get their figures from - how can they prove they're number one in memberships in the NRL without data from other clubs to compare it to?

That's crap, they're talking about all ticketed memberships then Souths are only around the 8.5-9k mark. Our TICKETED membership number is 6537, we have plenty of other non-ticketed. Talk about skewed numbers.

i would have thought the bulldogs would have had a lot more that 6.5k considering their season passes start at just $100- the cheapest in the league - should have the highest membership at those prices!! :?

Given our previous season was 4,000 and we were wooden spooners, a 2,500 increase is fantastic. Regardless, the figures presented above seem to be skewed in Souths' favour. JMO.

The article mentions the numbers are hard to determine since some clubs focus on ticketed while other clubs list all memberships. In saying that even souths non ticketed membership is $100 so its still a good achievement.

In the latest red V magazine it said that we had the highest number of financial club (not leagues club) members of any club in Sydney. Did not mention the number or proide a source. I took that claim with a grain of salt.

What a great article by Walshaw...surely its got to be a positive for the game and for future years.
Shame he didn't bring up last years nos. and we could have compared the results.
BTW happy with the Storm nos. They are all ticketed members, which is a good result seeing we don't have a leagues club.
AND congrats to Souths and to the Dogs.

Just found the quote, again no source provided for the claim.

From the first Red V magazine of 2009 they stated we had more than 10300 Red V members.

"The dragons now have the most ticketed memberships of all Sydney based NRL clubs"

As godz alluded to the "sydney based" comment could be skewed to suit, regardless a great effort by the club to continue to raise membership numbers. IMO it will continue to grow over the next few years.

The great thing is that clubs are only just waking up to this guaranteed income stream and already we are seeing some clubs getting decent numbers. With a bit more effort and investment, a bigger commitment on the part of fans and coordination by the NRL there is no reason why all clubs shouldn't be aiming for 15-20,000 members within a few years. Obviously ticketed members are what we really want but even non ticketed can add a fair few $'s and the spin offs with merchandise aand marketing for non ticketed still make them valuable.
