For all his talent Greg Bird is a massive grub and would probably spend more time suspended than actually playing.

You would knock back a state of origin player that we have a good chance of getting ? You have rocks in your head. (With respect). :)

If it weren't for the rocks I wouldn't follow the Eels ;). I haven't liked Bird since he clocked that Souths player a couple of years back and got 8 weeks.

A guy like that can tarnish a clubs reputation and how Parra players conduct themselves off the field is just as important as what they do on the field. Parra signing Bird sends the message that our club is so desperate for players to come here that we'll take anyone.

It's not like I'd boycott the club if they signed Bird and yeah, I'd cheer him on like any other Parra player. The problem is how long would it be before he committed some other low act and got himself suspended?

re: Bird parra is not hollywood any publicity is good publicity. The club would be seen as a bigger joke than we already are.

Given our club's recent records involving off field drunken incidents regarding Tim Smith, Hayne etc, signing a player with a proven bad record may do more damage sponsorship wise etc than his on field performances are worth.

Sponsors will come when we start winning. Bird will make us win. If the Dogs can get sponsorship after their crap anyone can.

A senior player like Mick Croker would be worth throwing some cash at.

I think he could have a similar influence to what Glenn Morrison had on our forward pack.

I wouldn't say no to Bird either.

Hard nosed fowards that are proven winners like Croker & Bird are exactly what we need.

We also need another prop with Fui's aggression & impact.

If we build a big mean & ugly forward pack the likes of Keating & Mortimer will thrive behind them.

One of the main reasons Bird was sacked by Cronulla was because sponsors told the club they'd possibly renig on their agreements should Bird be kept after his criminal charge. Having Bird at the club at getting involved in another incident will result in the exact same oosition for us.

Point taken but I think 'time' is a big factor in these things.

Just look at the Ben Cousins situation in the AFL.

Trust me, once the smoke blows over he'll be back in the NRL and there'll be some soppy piece in the telecrap about how he's turned over a new leaf in life with a happy photo of him alongside his GF sitting in a park....you know how it works.

Look at the Adelaide Crows All-Australian Defender - he assaults his girlfriend, admits to it, gets suspended for one week and then comes back into the side. I know it is no way close to glassing a female (which is one of the lowest things I can think of), but it highlights the hypocrisy of sport.

Yep - thank Telstra for that though (blocking Strathfield Car Radio). My heart bleeds for them though :D

Major sponsorship is something we have been without for a long time (save for the 'Opportunity' jerseys we had for a few weeks when we finished up with James Hardie (I think))

If we sign 3 or even 2 of the following...

Tom Leayrod Lahrs (Spelling)
Sika Manu
Greg Bird
Dave Taylor

Get rid of some dead weight (fitzgerald including)

Then we are a powerhouse once more.

The club really has to be tough with its re-signings from here on. Obviouslly players want to earn as much as they can but Anderson needs to set a value on each of those he wants to keep and if the player thinks he's worth more then that then send him on his way. We need players at the club that want to win for parra not just earn a living here. The poor attitude of the players is parlty due to these players having the club bow down to their every request. They are used to the club wanting to impress them rather then the other way around. Theres players out there that would kill to play for parra. Until we fill our first grade team with them then this attiude will always stay.

not necesarily, we just need to be a bit smarter, dogs came last last year and made several clever signings with a debut fg coach.

true. or we could look at the Souths model when they had to pay huge $ to attract anyone (and Joe G won the lottery). guess its the half glass full/empty line of thinking.

Dogs had the advantage of a wide spread clean out of the club, starting from the top.
