14,171... better then I thought! good turnout IMO :)

Sorry to spoil the mood, but I am going against the grain here. I think that is a terrible crowd.

A city of 3 million people whose team has played in the last 4 grand finals and are currently flying near the top of the ladder (vs a team with a rivalry which they played 2 recent grand finals against) and with no opposition code playing on the night and they only get 14,000?

Sorry. Terrible crowd. Should have got 18,000-20,000.

And I'm not just picking on the Storm - I think the Roosters crowd was a disgrace too. All other crowds this round have been great.

These are the crowds Melbourne v Manly in the past few years
2009: 12,601
2008: 13,632

This is the Melbourne crowd average in the past few years:
2009: 11,979
2008: 12,474

So a 14k crowd on Monday night is above expectations for Melbourne

For what it's worth (more in the interest of accuracy, not a comment for or against the crowd as such), Melbourne's population is now above 4 million people (passed 4 mil in July 2009).

Granted, I agree that playing the match at a better venue (Etihad) helped in getting a couple of thousand more that what they would have got at Olympic Park. And I do think their new Recuangular Stadium will boost the Storm's crowds significantly.

The Storm's crowd vs Drangons was a good one (25,000) and the crowd against the Warriros on ANZAC Day makes the game an 'event' of sorts and should see a heap of Kiwis turning up for the game so they should get a pretty good crowd for that too.

So I am not bagging their crowds overall. I just think the crowd last night for the Manly game when looked at in isolation was a poor one.

I agree with you - should have been closer to 20k

Dont really know what to expect for the Dogs game this week, with the win last week more fans will come out and i hope we can push the 20k mark or get real close to it, anything over 17k is a solid result.

In their entire history (including semi finals) how many home games have melbourne got a crowd of 20,000 to? It was a big game, but not that big. 20,000 would have been phenomenal but unrealistic to expect.

ANZAC Club match was 27k last year, and that was the biggest yet for Chooks v Dragons. Not sure how much of an improvement on that we will get this year. I will be very happy if it cracks 30k.

Bulldogs v Broncos @ ANZ - 18k
Cowboys v Eels @ Dairy Farmers - 17k
Sharks v Knights @ Toyota Park - +10k (I hope)
Panthers v Tigers @ CUA - 17k
Dragons v Roosters @ SFS - 30k
Raiders v Rabbitohs @ Canberra - 13k
Storm v Warriors @ Etihad - 22k
Sea Eagles v Titans @ Brookvale - 15k

Total = 142 000
Average = 17 750
