That's laughable when you consider that the 100,000 capacity MCG has sold out for a regular season game on Friday night.

Tell you what buddy. If the AFL state of origin this year outsells the NRL one, I'll walk down Martin Place in the nude with a big black dildo sticking out my arse. Same goes if Aussie Rules Australian Test team draws a bigger crowd than the Kangaroos. Do we have a deal buddy? :)

Not so much crowd related but didn't want to make a new thread:

Bulldogs are coming home
THE blue and white army will today receive the best news they've had all season: their beloved Bulldogs are headed back to Belmore.
We can reveal that CEO Todd Greenberg will this morning join federal politicians at the club's spiritual kennel to announce a $5 million funding package that will return the Bulldogs home in time for next season.

Canterbury plan to spend the money on state-of-the-art training and administrative facilities that surpass their current set-up at Sydney Olympic Park. And in even better news for Bulldogs fans, the board is still chasing further public funding to update the grandstand and possibly allow for future NRL games to be staged at the old ground for the first time since 1998.

"Ever since the new board was elected, they've made it a priority to get back to Belmore," a Bulldogs source told us. "I reckon Todd [Greenberg] has been talking to the Federal Government for 18 months about funding and now it's finally been approved.

"But they don't want to stop there. They still want money from the State Government and [Canterbury] council that might allow games to be played at Belmore again."

It is understood a further $10-15 million would be needed to bring the dilapidated venue up to NRL standard.

But for now, Canterbury are at least poised to be based there forever, with a lease in the vicinity of 25 years set to be signed.

Under the terms of their lease, the Bulldogs will make Belmore available for home games staged by Sydney Olympic Soccer Club.

Olympic officials will also attend the 11.30am press conference, along with Federal ministers Anthony Albanese and Tony Bourke.

Well done, Fumbleball will have around a million watching on TV maybe and the SOO will have around 2.5 million.

Plus the SOO will have 99% of the population of PNG of 6 million awatching as well as half of NZ. And large numbers in the Pacific, England, and a reasonable viewing in southern France.

 I think you're pretty safe mate, just another insecure Tardball fan bleating on about crowds. As we know it's all they have.

Source?

The MCG rarely gets 100k for the Grand Final... I think maybe once in the last ten years.

Stop being such an insecure pedant. The only reason why they don't get the 100k capacity is because not every MCC members don't use their ticket. Every other seat/standing area available to the public is gone within hours and if there were 20k+ more available they'd be snapped up in no time as well.

They get much bigger crowds than us but we're also enjoying some great numbers as well so it's got me f**ked why there's so much insecurity about AFL around here. We're gonna get very good crowds for all 3 origin games so how about we concentrate on that hey.

Something like 14,458, or 14,498 at Newcastle.. can't remember exactly but yeah.

Not bad considering the weather.

I agree with your comment on the decent turn out for the Knights/Tigers game. Those Newcastle fans are just so loyal and passionate and rain doesn't deter them from going to watch their team.

However, do not agree on your thoughts re MNF.
I love MNF and for us Melbournians and other interstaters with foxtel it gives us live games instead of the midnight shift offered by Ch.9 twice a week.

Think of the overall picture.

Plus the fact that the knights are playing woeful football and have quite a few injuries (and their captain isn't playing). I thought we were going to see a much worse crowd.

Could be in for a shocking crowd at Parra tonight if this rain keeps up. Ditto for the gong tomorrow and especially Penrith on Monday if Tim Bailey is correct.

Whats the weather like in NZ? Does it even matter?

And i'm sure the bulk of the 88 thousand that walked away from the MCG last night were thinking "jeez, i wish we hap a rep game to look forward to".

But the 10,000 or so who head off to the North Melb v Fremantle game later in the year might.

Which is why rugby league should be equal to or better off when it comes to future TV money.

Terrible yesterday, ridiculous amounts of rain and freezing cold

Perfect, sunny and mild today

Tomorow - who knows? hopefully it will be similar to today, although the warriors do tend to play well in the wet

Should get a decent crowd for the Dragons game, it's the last Wollongong game for the year.

Parra tonight will be good.

As will the Gong tomorrow.

Penrith on Mon will be a bit touch and go, but unlikely to be as bad as Newcastle last night.
