Was he playing in the first half?

Marshall barely touched the ball in the first half, and I think you know that. Fien was the main man, then NZ came to its senses and used Luke and Marshall, with Fien taking a lesser but still effective role.

Good point, oh hang no you're completly wrong sorry about that.

Aus finished on the same number of points as the pretending Africans that went through to the second round. The goal difference was the only thing that stopped us from getting into the second round 2 cups in a row

So what you're saying is, you won, but still didn't go through, also known as a "consolation win". And you weren't undefeated because you copped a flogging in the first game. Thanks for clearing that up.

If you throw a ball forward into the opposition, it's still forward isn't it?

Yes.

But perhaps the touch deceived Archer. Rather than identifying the forward pass, he may have been questioning whether the touch from Lockyer was what made it look forward rather than any fault from the passer.

I'm not saying I agree with the decision necessarily, but I can see how he may have arrived at it.

Although Marshall was involved in each of the three tries and managed a linebreak, he went missing for long stretches of the game. I don't know why he didn't take on more of the kicking responsibility seeing as Fein kept putting it right down Slater's throat.

Tuqiri...overated and it proves that his physical game will not prove the difference any more.

He was useless tonight and will be lucky to play for Aus again, but his performances this year have otherwise been superb. I think he'll appreciate the break after playing 18 months consecutively. Hopefully he'll continue his good form for the Tigers next year.

Same opinion as mine.

Refs are happy to rule benefit of the doubt on forward passes.

Yep, that's my main beef with Marshall

Fantastic player when he decides to chime in. He just doesn't do it often enough.

Unrelated, does B Morris ever come in and take hitups at club level? He also needs to find his way into the game more.

I'm pretty sure Fein only kicked it straight to Slater twice (and his kicking game was pretty good otherwise, forced a really important goal-line drop-out back end of second half)--but when Marshall kicked it straight to Slater, Slater knocked it on.

well... technically... its a forward pass when the ref blows his whistle and rules it a forward pass...

that didn't happen so game on...

it was a decent game of footy... not a bad way to end the season.

but bloody hell... the kiwis still have sh*tloads of improvement in them.... so much unforced errors.

Australia's backs as a whole were very disappointing tonight.

Slater - a few decent runs, but looked like he was just going through the motions for most of the game.
Morris - stepped into touch unnoticed yet again early on, and hasn't been sighted since.
Tate - absolutely shocking luck with his injury, particularly as he barely did anything when he was there.
Tonga - did absolutely nothing of note apart from make shocking reads in defence time and time again.
Tuqiri - directly responsible for two tries. Made awful decisions in defence and completely ineffective in attack.
Gidley - got smashed every single time he took the ball up. Offered absolutely nothing in attack or defence.

Morris should stand much wider, maybe row two or three in the concourse. He's got the right idea - the touchlines are such an unnecessary constraint.

My biggest criticism of the guy. Tonight was the night to really show he wasn't a gutless wonder. We were down to 15 men. Our forwards could have done with as much help as possible and it's an easy 10 metres out of dummy half. Yet he did f**k all in the second half. Nothing. In fact, I barely even saw him and I was watching for him. The only thing I really saw him do is stand by and let Slater get dragged back into the in goal. At least Slater had the spine to go kamikaze and try and get us back into the field of play. Morris just stood there watching Slater when it was clear he was in trouble. And he had time to do something, or to at least get into a position to help. At least his performance was consistent with his first half. He's lazy and a cat.
