Australia's backs as a whole were very disappointing tonight.

Slater - a few decent runs, but looked like he was just going through the motions for most of the game.
Morris - stepped into touch unnoticed yet again early on, and hasn't been sighted since.
Tate - absolutely shocking luck with his injury, particularly as he barely did anything when he was there.
Tonga - did absolutely nothing of note apart from make shocking reads in defence time and time again.
Tuqiri - directly responsible for two tries. Made awful decisions in defence and completely ineffective in attack.
Gidley - got smashed every single time he took the ball up. Offered absolutely nothing in attack or defence.
is Lockyer exempt from criticism??

you accuse Tate of doing nothing... yet Tate played half the time Lockyer did and he still had a bigger impact on the game.

I was specifically critiquing the outside backs. You're right about Lockyer. His biggest input into the game was touching Nightingale's pass straight into Kiwi hands for Fien's try. I thought Cronk had a pretty quiet game too actually, apart from the 40/20.

That's not taking anything away from NZ though, Australia played as well as they were allowed to.

Not defending Lockyer, cause he was bad.

But Cronk wasn't much better, kicked that 40/20..

Australia's halves have been poor all series. Might be related to pretty average wingers/centres.

My biggest criticism of the guy. Tonight was the night to really show he wasn't a gutless wonder. We were down to 15 men. Our forwards could have done with as much help as possible and it's an easy 10 metres out of dummy half. Yet he did f**k all in the second half. Nothing. In fact, I barely even saw him and I was watching for him. The only thing I really saw him do is stand by and let Slater get dragged back into the in goal. At least Slater had the spine to go kamikaze and try and get us back into the field of play. Morris just stood there watching Slater when it was clear he was in trouble. And he had time to do something, or to at least get into a position to help. At least his performance was consistent with his first half. He's lazy and a cat.

5 runs for 32 metres and 3 tackles. Says it all.

You honestly have to wonder what goes through his head whilst playing. He was similar in Origin this year.

Either he must get bored, or has a great imagination.

I honestly don't care if he fails each time he makes an effort. But it's actually going to make that effort that's the problem. Have a f**king dig buddy.

ohh true... yeah i just noticed they were outside backs... fair enough...

for the record i agree with you... i thought the Aussie backline was poor... i was just a bit stunned that Lockyer who i thought was one of the worst didn't get a mention in your post.

Well Im shocked, Australia held the Kiwis for 78 minutes and lost in the final minutes. Never take your eyes of Benji he's all class.

How many times has Australia won games in the final minutes, I dont think we've ever lost like that.

What a great game though, one of the best matches Ive ever seen, up there with the 06 Tri Nations final.

Plenty of biff, hits and great runs.

Bit of a disappointing crowd considering they said it was close to a sell out, 36,000, still not a bad crowd.

I think this proves that New Zealand are a tough team to beat in Rugby League test matches.

I reckon we should bring back ther 3 test series between the two teams. Stuff the one off tests, play the test series after Origin.

Although Marshall was involved in each of the three tries and managed a linebreak, he went missing for long stretches of the game.

I also think Gould & co were so busy salivating over what Marshall did for those last couple of tries that they underplayed Nightingale's involvement in both, which was huge. From what I saw he instigated Marshall's kick for the second to last one & did an amazing job to run around his opposite & avoid crossing the sideline to help set up the clincher. Big efforts from most of our backline that deserved more credit from the commentators IMO.

Thx to the SMH guide I taped it on GEM channel only to my horror to find some Richard Gere movie instead. Whatever happened to GEM simulcasting ALL sport in HD?

Making excuses already I see. You know I really don't like to insult people but I'm going to do it anyway:

Even the NSW SOO side would flog NZ!

Sorry, I've never had an outburst like that before.

lol, enjoy your xmas losers
