I don't think Klose intervered with play and Muller was onside...stupid rule though.

Beauchamp needs to start against Ghana for sure. And Holman was once again impressive off the bench and should start up front.

I don't think we need to panic yet. Ghana and Serbia are NOT as good as this German team despite what any geniuses tried to tell you before the WC. The Germans are the best team in our group by a mile. It's not out of the question to win both of our remaining games.

I agree, but we need to come out with a much more positive approach, and for god's sake 2 strikers please...

Why is everyone pissing and moaning about Kewell and Bresciano
clearly they werent quite fit and even if there were close to it, 2 nil down and 10 men on the park and no Cahill for the next game, the game was lost, it would have been f**king idiotic to risk these guys in a game far gone when we will NEED them for the next two

that cahill challenge was horrible too. Late, dangerous... red card? Maybe not but ive got no issues with it, and nor did the mate i was with who is a former prems referee

Chickens finally came home to roost this game, hardly any injection of youth over the last 4 years has seen us reduced to a bunch of old-age pensioners....and wtf was Tim Cahill thinking, did he think it was 1974.

Devastated.

Although I didn't expect too much coming out of this match. Hopefully we can snag a draw with either Ghana or Serbia and walk away with some dignity.

The Cahill challenge was sloppy but that's never a red card. He pulled his feet back.

Anyway, although some have said it should have been 2-1 with a penalty, it doesn't hide the fact that we should have lost by 10.

Pim abandoned everything that we have done over the past 2 years, played players out of position ... baffling.

And here's another question for Fishy and co. who seem intent on defending Pim and using a couple of dodgy decisions as some sort of excuse:

Although I absolutely agree that there was no point playing Harry once we were down to 10-men, what the f**k was he waiting for? Why weren't significant changes made at half-time. Was the situation not dire enough at 2-0 down?

Pim basically said before the game that Germany are a far superior side and his selections were aimed at limiting the damage. What sort of manager does that? Any chance of at least making life difficult for Germany went out the window with that theory.

Wow...I thought Germany would win but not this convincingly.

Aussie looked slow, the midfield lacked cohesion and could not even find space to hit any through balls.

As for Strikers..I am sorry but Aussie does not have one.

Cahill's tackle whilst he held back on the studs being up was intentional and this is what the ref ruled on..fair enough IMO.

Let's hope the Kiwis go better than this in their first game !!.

Old man Moore got shown up big time...he is really only good for a yellow card or two.

agree. some changes off the top of my head

Rukka for Garcia
Kennedy for Valeri
Kewell for Cahill (although Kewell would not play as a striker)
Beauchamp for Moore (ugh...sorry, but Moore was disgraceful this morning)
Bresciano for Grella

The structure would need to change a bit for this to happen. I would be playing Rukka and Kennedy as strikers, although would be happy enough if Rukka started on the bench and came on late (in that case, maybe play Kewell up front with Jesus)

Just because I don't accept every criticism made doesn't mean I'm intent on defending pim.

As far as I'm concerned the buck stops with him. he changed things from the qualifiers and it backfired. He wears the loss now he has to turn it around in 5 days.

Maybe direct those questions to someone who actually does want to defend pim

player ratings from the SMH. Can I get a WTF for the following?

CRAIG MOORE: Made some solid challenges and did the little work he needed to in air well. But Germany's plan of playing short balls in front third and sending crosses in along ground found him wanting at times: Rating: 5.

LUCAS NEILL: A nightmarish return to a tournament he dominated in 2006. Guilty of playing Germans on-side in dangerous situations way too often and struggled to deal with their excellent movement. Rating: 3.

SCOTT CHIPPERFIELD: Shocker. His side was targeted time after time by the Germans, and that was a smart move on their part. Torn apart by Ozil and Muller and exposed for virtually entire match. Rating: 3.

VINNIE GRELLA: His indifferent form continues. Ineffective, couldn't really get the defensive line set in the right place, and sacrificed after 45 minutes for a more attacking option. Rating: 4.

CARL VALERI: Surprise selection who looked comfortable when on the ball moving team forward. Not so comfortable when wave after wave of German pressure bore down on him like a Panzer division. Rating: 5.

BRETT EMERTON: The only Socceroo who measured up to his best. Tried hard to get things going down right and did all he had to well. Sadly, it was not enough. Rating: 7.

TIM CAHILL: Without doubt his worst game for his country. Barely touched ball and ineffective. Then sent off - probably harshly - for a challenge which warranted only yellow. Now misses must-win match against Ghana. Rating: 4.

JASON CULINA: Played in unfamiliar role on left in first half and struggled badly as Ozil cut him to shreds. Better when moved into defensive role second half but damage done. Rating: 4.

RICHARD GARCIA: Surprise selection who battled manfully in unfamiliar role as striker. Workrate can't be faulted but one wonders where his best position is for the Socceroos - and if it's in the starting 11. Rating: 6.

Substitutes:

BRETT HOLMAN: Gave his usual burst of early second half energy when he replaced Grella. But faded out of the match when team was reduced to 10 men. Rating: 5.

NIKITA RUKAVYTSYA: Brought on surprisingly ahead of Harry Kewell for Garcia, and had about as much on-field impact as the people in Row C. Rating: 4.

MILE JEDINAK: Late substitution for last 15 minutes. No rating:

Kennedy is nothing...he is not a clinical finisher in the slightest and this is the problem for Oz...where are the goals going to come from ??.

At least NZ has Smeltz, Killen and Fallon..

OK, does anyone know why Kewell and Bresciano apparently warmed up in the changerooms while the rest of the team was on the field?
