That is why they use celebrities to market Myer and David Jones. Matter of fact most brands use some form of celeb to promote their products.

It is the same in any country around the world.

Marketing clothes to vapid women and marketing memberships to stingy RL fans are not the same. Celebrities = waste of money. The best advertisement for memberships imo
-on field success, Parra's membership skyrocketed after the Hayne Train of 09
-club promotion with good value
-word of mouth. All members should convince their mates to become members too. Buy them as christmas/birthday presents and stuff.

I think we're 2-3 years off being in a very good place with memerships numbers

TBH if my club relied on a celebrity to sell memberships, I'd consider not purchasing one. Pathetic concept IMO

Another point - the PLAYERS are the celebrities. Why the f**k would anyone waste their time getting Jen Hawkins to advertise memberships when they have Kurt Gidley and in the past Andrew Johns?
Jarryd Hayne has most likely sold more memberships than every Aussie celebrity combined could ever influence.

Jarryd Hayne is the only reason Parra had a decent crowd average last season and the only reason the Eels have a decent amount of members,he gives us Eels fans hope(even if its false hope) even when we are playing bad.

Parramatta would be absolutely screwed without him and they would be last in crowd averages and memberships without him,he deserves to get paid 5 million a year.

NRL players are still on the nose for adverts. Why would the NRL risk it. As least for the next few years. Last time they used current NRL players it turned into a disgrace.

We're talking about clubs using their own players to advertise their own memberships, not the NRL's yearly commercial.

I mean more like the Green Eyed ad that Canberra are running.

Canberra could have used Joel Monaghan for their membership drive. I can imagine the campaign now "We will blow you away". Then you could have a picture of Joel getting blown by the dog. Dress him up in the full Canberra kit... Well that would be great for membership.

Or one second lets use Jarryd Hayne as the poster boy for Parramatta's Membership drive . Slogan could be "Shooting for success" .

Rooster's could use Nate Miles and each member gets a free fake poo , like the ones found in the MAD show bags at the Easter show.

That is why the NRL are not using current footballers. For every football with good morals there is 2 that have no morals.

The NRL have played it safe and will be using KING WALLY and MARK GEYER for their campaign. Least they will not go out and make a fool of them selves.

What a load of tripe. The only type of people who believe this are the ones who listen to the media way to much.

You have managed to list a handful of players out of the hundreds that play in the NRL. The bad ones make the headlinesm the good ones don't but that doesn't mean the bad outnumber the good.

I also have to laugh at the suggestion that it is any less common to see high profile celebs with bad morals.

Edit:
Agree PaulyTom, I don't see the distinction Timmah is making.

If dgsfan agrees with you there must be something wrong.

There are many good players out there that do the right thing. It is a shame that 10% act like fools and ruin the game for the other 90%. Thank god the NRL are finally trying to stamp out these losers.

I suppose the question I pose to you is - Would you go out on the drink to places like the Mean Fiddler or the Cross if you were a footballer?

Footballers need to stay clear of nightspots. There is to many idiots about who want to pick fights. It is a timebomb waiting to happen.

Alcohol + footballers + nightclubs full of people wanting to pick fights = Danger for young footballers careers.

Alcohol + your dog + your best mates taking photos + Social networking sites= Danger for young footballers.

Alcohol + taking your clothes off + no idea where a toilet it is = Danger for footballers.

Billthekid, are you saying star NRL players don't misbehave? I don't agree that for every 2 good ones there are 2 bad ones, all I'm saying is the distinction Timmah is making has no merit.

I'm a Souths fan.

I can appreciate what Russell Crowe has done for my club.

But I think you get my drift about using players in NRL campaigns. It is a risky affair after the Inglis and Stewart debacle.

Who has a big enough profile for the demographic being targetted in this country anyway?

Out of interest who is the demographic clubs target for memberships? 20 year old men, 40 year old men, families? or do they try to target all I wonder?
