I am 100% certain Souths would get better crowds at the SFS. 10 minutes up the road from Redfern and Maroubra, their main heartlands, vs 40 mins...But if ANZ is paying them to play there, whatever

Just one more thing to put on the Independent Commissions to-do list. Souths should swap with Wests. Souths to SFS and Wests to ANZ, and while we're at it change their official name to West Sydney Tigers.

I take it then that talk of Crowe and that Sydney FC guy building their own stadium was just, well talk then. A shame.

Thats a club issue, the IC can not control that.

Ideally the Dragons would play all their home games against the other big sydney teams (Souths, Bulldogs, Eels, Tigers) at the SFS. It would be better for them and better for the game.

Tried and failed before.

Agree

That's the problem with free speech and democracy, idiots get a say.

It's not so much that idiots get a say, it's that idiots don't interpret things correctly and form judgements and opinions off that.

The big problem St.George Illawarra has is the lack of available seating at Kogarah & WIN. It's great to grow memberships but ultimately fans want to get a comfy seat at the game.

That was an issue last year at Kogarah WIN. A friend could only purchase Cat 3 area which is located behind the goal posts at each end of the ground, possibly due to an uneven number of 3 tickets requested. Hopefully, with to extension of the grandstand can offer upgraded facilities to more fans.

I would prefer we played at the SFS, but it does pay the bills.

That said, outside the SFS, there is no other ground in Sydney with the same facilities for the supporters. As members we have our own lounge, and can stand in there and drink watching the game, easy to get from the carpark to your reserved seat etc.

I enjoy going to grounds like Leichhardt, as it is down the road, but to go there for 12 home games every year (for example)?

Lets face it, we still had the 5th best home crowds in the game behind Broncos, Dogs, Tigers, Titans.

And without making the finals.;-)

If the SFS paid us as much or more than ANZ I'd have no problem playing there. The IC would have no right to force us to play at the SFS if we got paid less.
and while we're at it change their official name to West Sydney Tigers.
This! I thought I was the only one annoyed by their name. Who the f**k came up with the idea to make their official name "Wests"?

It's stupid for two reasons. It's a bloody nickname at best and it's outdated in a national comp. They can still be called "Wests" (like we're called Souths) by fans but their official name should always have been West Sydney Tigers.

Not really. The Roosters crowds are still ordinary, boosted by obvious outliers each season. Souths' crowds could be better too.

If you take out the obvious outliers our season average decreases by about 300-400. I imagine it would be similar results right across the board.

Agree with Bunnies Man.

The terms,
"South Sydney" is fine.
"North Sydney" is fine.

"Wests/Western Suburbs" is meaningless in a national competition.
"West Sydney" is more appropriate.

Same reason the term "Eastern Suburbs" is longer used.

I wonder when the day that Western Suburb Magpies will return

Balmain no longer exist even at NSW Cup level and their Leagues Club is having issues

Well if at some point Balmain can no longer contribute to the merger financially then the Wests can become a standalone club. A precedent has been set by Manly where one merger partner can drop the other if the opportunity comes up.

I'd like it if a foundation club could come back, even if it was because another foundation club died. IMO, while not ideal, 1 foundation club in the comp and 1 foundation club dead is better than a merger with a crappy name and a 10 year club instead of a 103 year club.

Since when?

Balmain played in the 2010 NSW cup, they won the international 9's on saturday and are in the 2011 NSW cup draw.

I'm not sure that they care what you think. You don't support them so you don't get a say. They can change their name to "Travelling Furburgers" if it makes them happy.

Whether the older fans like it or not, I think Saints will eventually consider a 4-4-4 split Wollongong-Logarah-SFS. If their memberships keeps growing they will either have to consider this or heavily raising prices
I think 5-5-2 split is more likely.

Once again, their JV - their choice.
Just because a partner is not contributing financially does not mean they are not contributing at all.

eg Illawarra have not contributed financially to the JV at all. In fact, they are only a 25% owner these days. However, imo they have contributed to the JV and I feel that, morally at least, we'd be wrong to rub their name off the emblem. But once again, that is for the SGI JV to sort out, & I don't care what supporters of other clubs have to say on the matter.

different circumstance completely though, st george were never a part of this joint venture for financial reasons. abd the circumstances that caused them to join with illawarra still exist.
