The winner of the Battle of the Beaches will be announced on the respective club’s website.

From NRL website,Sharkies are definitely the winners.

I wonder if clubs involved in upcoming membership battles are politely asking there fans who want to become members to hold off until the battle begins to help them in there quest for the $10,000

Someone asked this in the Official Panthers Forum about waiting for our 'Membership Premiership' week to sign up.

Our Membership Managers response was this:

Definately sign up now. If you are already a member coming into this week you will be able to help us out with a very big member get member program we have planned. The NRL will be promoting the "do your bit and sign up today" campaign whilst we will be working on "do your bit and sign up a friend campaign". The more members we have coming into the 26th of Feb the more members we will be able to recruit.

By the way, Congratulations to the Sharks on winning the first battle. Sensational effort by Manly and the Roosters too, the numbers they managed to get this week were outstanding as well.

Bring on the Legends battle!

Look at the Dogs form last year, yet we still managed to be the second most supported team. RE Dragons, if they can't even get their small stadium to capacity (even for a finals game), then what hope would they have it it had a larger capacity. You only have to look at when they played out of ANZ to see that.

The size of our two stadiums play a major role in our average home crowd attendance. We have large support across the eastern seaboard as evidenced by our membership numbers and away crowd average (which was number one from memory). Personally I'd love see both Kogarah and Wollongong transformed into 25k all seat stadiums. I'm positive our home crowd average would improve. Realistically it's very unlikely to happen, so we will continue to sit middle of the pack in home crowd averages.

Why is there a week between each round? The NRL need the week to gather 10k for the next one?

With 5 weeks till kick off there is plenty of time for each team to be involved in a 'Battle'.

The Queensland teams could use one with Cowboys way behind their 2010 tally, Gold Coast slowing in the past two weeks and the Broncos looking like barely beating their 2010 total.

The problem with a QLD battle is the vastly different populations of each area. Broncos would win hands down. The winner would have to be determined via percentage instead of pure numbers, to make it fair.

I think it quite purposeful in that the Charity Shield is on the 13th.. They will hype up the battle of the legends there for sure... Also, what's wrong with a week break. It basically has forced us to all stand up and watch the battle between R1.

As per the other poster, you need to compare apples with apples.. Maybe they could do Newcastle vs Canberra next time as well.

A very smart initiative by the NRL or whoever came up with the idea.. I think last time there was no real competition to the front runners..

Give credit where credit is due!

were gunna invest that money in a money market mutual fund and re invest in a foreign currency exchange aaaaand its gone!

Haha c'mon the NRL aren't that dumb giving 10k to the Sharks would be like giving 10k to a gambler it'd just disappear with clueless looks all round.

It's 10k worth of advertising, I imagine it's a radio add, website or something like that.

That's a huge assumption! Just like the Chooks would use it on outstanding hotel cleaning bills.

The only assumption is that they'd blow it in seconds and on something probably not very worthwhile (mainly due to the fact that 10k doesn't get you far these days). What's so HUGE about that?
