You've really got to watch out for Broncos fans making a mockery of these threads don't you? Completely blinded by their own arrogance to notice the contribution of Willie Tonga to Queensland last two series victories.

The notion that Hodges could just walk back into the side after so long out and prior to that being in ordinary form, is just ludicrous. He's got so much to prove before even being considered.

Willie Tonga, if in reasonable form in the opening rounds should and will be picked.

broncos fan. not me!
tonga has been so iffy in every qld game i've seen

Tonga could have had a few nice attacking chances this year, but Thaiday got involved every time space was created down their side and that killed the backline movement, it was frustrating to watch.

Exact same as the last game except Tate in for Folau. I really want Hannant and maybe DJ in there but the loyalty rule won't allow it.

The last 2 times Tate has played on the wing for Qld he has been awful. He needs to be playing in the centres or not at all

I can't stand watching Tate play for QLD on the wing.............. he is rubbish there.

Slater
Boyd
Inglis
Tonga/Hodges
Tonga/ Tuquiri
Lockyer/JT
JT/Prince

thats the backline I would pick.

1. Billy Slater
2. Lote Tuqiri
3. Greg Inglis
4. Brent Tate
5. Darius Boyd
6. Darren Lockyer (c)
7. Jonathan Thurston
8. Ben Hannant
9. Cam Smith
10. Petero Civoniceiva
11. Nate Myles
12. Sam Thaiday
13. Dallas Johnson

14. Cooper Cronk
15. Dave Shillington
16. Dave Taylor
17. Mat Scott

- Personally, I'd rather somebody like a Ash Harrison on the bench as opposed to Cronk, but I'd say Meninga will be grooming him for 2012.

I'm confused -

Why is everyone in a rush to drop Hodges? He's grubby - so is Thaiday - but I like em in Maroon.

Anyways - whats really perplexing me - if we win 6 in a row - quite a probability - I have run out of fingers on one hand to wave at people in Blue. This year it looked like I was waving. But;

is it a full hand (five fingers) and a thumb - which kinda looks like the Fonz waving goodbye,
or a full hand and the index finger - which feels odd, like "wait/stop - one more thing..."
or is it 3 fingers on each hand - which kinda looks like a hip hop gang sign?

NSW better get ther act together before 11 series wins - I aint a gymnist!

Just being realistic. Hodges has been out a year, will take him about 12 weeks to be any good and I don't think testing that out in the Origin arena is the best option.

Not to mention, Tate was always a better Origin player than Hodges.

it beats me why the first 3 teams in this thread had tonga, especially on the wing?

he only has made a few teams when we were not at full strength.
tate, inglis, hodges and boyd are our top 4 three-quarters
Boyd is a better centre than Tonga? Surely you're taking the piss.

I agree. And the last two times he's played in the centres for QLD, at Hodges's expense, he's been the best player on the field - Game 3, 2006 and Game 2, 2008. Defended like a man possessed. Of course, Inglis got all the glory because hey, attack is always praised far more than defence.

How on earth can you drop Scott or Shillington from the starting side after the way they played this year? Wtf has Hannant done to warrant a starting role?

And dropping Harrison is absurd. We don't need three props on the bench when we have two starters as well as Myles and Thaiday, who regularly push up front.

In attack, he was fine. In defence, he was woeful, both under the high ball and in terms of positioning, thanks mostly to Hodges's inept defence.

Basically.

He was fine in 2006 and 2007 though.

How on earth can you drop Scott or Shillington from the starting side after the way they played this year? Wtf has Hannant done to warrant a starting role?

I'm obviously predicting what will happen in the first 10 rounds of the regular season. I expect Hannant to have a great start hence earn his spot.

Really it's like splitting hairs with those fours...I just went with Shillo and Scott because I believe they offer more impact value.

Taylor isn't a prop and there isn't enough room to have two workhorse ball playing locks.

It really never ceases to amaze me how people can disregard proven Origin performances, not even for great short-term club form, but even worse...the prediction of great short-term club form. If you're picking an Origin side, the primary (and IMO, often, sole criteria) is previous Origin performances.

No it's not. I ask again, what has Hannant done in SOO to warrant a starting spot? Scott and Shillington were phenomenal for QLD this year. Hannant hasn't even played particularly well off the bench for QLD.

Taylor isn't a prop and there isn't enough room to have two workhorse ball playing locks.
Mal plays him like one.

So you're spitting the dummy because I have Hannant starting over Scott or Shillo? Really I couldn't care less who started I just believe Hannant will. Also short-term form? Hannant has been one of the best props in the game since 2009, if it wasn't for injuries he would've been playing in the green and gold.

Mal plays him like one.

Does he? Seems strange that Taylor spent a lot of time parked next to GI...

I'm not spitting the dummy. I'm telling you you're being disloyal and rewarding a player for good reason.

For the third time, what has he done in SOO?

You're picking an Origin team. Not a team of best players.

Here's what Taylor did in attack.

Game 1, 2010
1st run, 2nd tackle - 58th minute - One pass off the ruck, centre-field.
2nd run, 2nd tackle - 63rd minute - One pass off the ruck, cross ruck play, centre-field.

By this time, Scott was the only official prop out there. Both Myles and Taylor were defending in the middle and playing as props.

3rd run, 2nd tackle - 70th minute - One pass off the ruck, centre-field.

He replaced Harrison, a left fringe player, and did virtually nothing in that role. He played like a prop. Yeah he was next to GI a few times, but he didn't get the ball that wide even once, for the simple reason that he over-runs it. Hence him being a prop. Getting the ball, centre-field, on 2nd tackle, 100% of the time makes you a prop, mate.

Oh okay so when you said what the f**k you were just trying to be cute, gotcha.

For the third time, what has he done in SOO?

Played an inspirational game while injured in Game 2 2009. True, Scott and Shillington have probably crept in front of him but as I said Hannant is going to be in the team regardless. Starting or off the bench doesn't matter to me.

As for your spiel about Taylor, you do realise he played both prop/second row? You even said so yourself. With two props on the bench, he'd obviously come onto play second row, a luxury he didn't have last time.
