There are 6 reasonable teams - Cabra, Mounties, Auburn, Wenty, Windsor and Entrance.

Weepu and Trindall are not listed for Windsor but 10 year veteran Ben Stewart is on the bench after missing all the OAMPS cup games.

Auburn have listed hooker Shelley at no 6. A bit strange when they 3 other viable options for 5/8.

Mostyn and Nanai are the only notable players in the St Johns list. Where are Little, Afamasanga, Tonga, Conrad T and Loder? If this is the team they will not trouble any of the top 6.

Burwood, Blacktown and Kingsgrove will have their own little contest. The latter 2 teams were beaten easily by the Auburn reserve grade team recently and would probably be more appropriately placed in the reserve grade.

The reserve grade comp is called the "True Blue Chemicals Sydney Shield". There will be only 7 teams as Liverpool Titans withdrew after Auburn beat them 86-6 at the start of March. Titans have now entered the ICCC A Grade where they will go up against Auburn's 3rd grade.

Round 1 has Mounties vs Cabra, St Johns vs Guildford, Hills v Auburn,
Wenty has the bye.

Tonga has not been sighted at preseason training all year . Doubt he will even line up in lower grade . Same said for little . Talented half but has turned up to 3 or so sessions . Coach has put his foot down . In saying that if st johns struggle in the early rounds he will pick thence regardless

Wenty look OK. Everyone from no 6 to no 13 plus a few of the bench have plenty of recent experience in the State Cup comp.

Good game at Mounties today. Cabra led 22-6 at half time but Mounties wore them down to lead 26-22 with 10 to go but Matt Hall's 3rd try put Cabra in front again and they held out Mounties final raid to win 28-26.

Francis Vaoitu had a great game in Cabra's 56-30 win the Sydney Shield.

St Johns pulled off the first upset of the season, leading all the way to beat Entrance 18-16. Unlisted players in the St Johns team were Holo Tonga, Dean Loder, Aaron Grech and former Australian Schoolboy rep, Junior Roquica.

St Johns were hitting hard all day. Coedi Towney and 4 other Entrance players played last week in the Central Coast comp but the extra game didnt do them any good.

Wow I can name 7 players in that st johns team that have not trained once with the team all preseason of been sighted at training . Nothing wrong with that . Feel sorry for all the boys that put in the effort just to get dropped. End of the day though st johns really have a competitive team this year now . . Very suprised with Karl filiga lining up . Thought he was solid for wenty nsw cup in recent years.

At this level Karl Filinga can win games by himself. Mostyn, Nanai, Filinga and Loder must take up half the points cap.

ive got the media sheet from yesterday, Entrance was 79/100, St Johns were 94/100

Mostyn - 15 points
Nanai - 15 points
Loder - 10 Points
Vaefaga - 10 Points
Filiga - 8 Points
Refaai - 8 Points

it helped that they had a few dogs under 20's players who are only worth 2 or 4 points each.

I reckon they mixed up the points for Rafaai and Roqica. No u/20's there, they would go into Sydney Shield but Gill, Finn and Roqica are in the State Cup squad (Bulldogs bye this week) and while Gill and Finn will be low points because they played NYC last year, Roqica played plenty of Premier League for Balmain while still at Holy Cross.

St Johns would have hadly any discounts for past service - up to 5 points per player.

Other results:

Windsor 28 Auburn 14
Wenty 34 Kingsgrove 10
Burwood 42 Blacktown 16

Went to Kingsgrove vs Wentworthville yesterday. Scoreline flattered Wenty just a touch, Kingsgrove held their own well up the middle but were opened up a little on the fringes. Some good signs for them hopefully.

The number 5 from Wenty is an impressive specimen - legs like giant sequoias.

Yes Junior Rika was a handful all day. Considering the players the Colts' have lost this season they did hold their own against Wenty. They should compete with Blacktown and Burwood but can't see them beating any of the top sides.

Dont get me wrong, I'm certainly under no illusions as to how Kingsgrove will go this year - but all things considered they went well on Sunday.

I went to the Kinsgrove game yesterday and was disgusted to see a bloody cement cricket pitch on the field. How can this happen? Where is the duty of care? What if someone hit their head on the pitch? I really wouldn't have been surprised if the players refused to play. Who makes these decisions of playing on a field that 6 year olds shouldn't play on. How can this field be Kingsgroves home field?
