The Broncos, Roosters, Storm and Wests Tigers have registered their first wins of the 2012 Telstra Premiership season today, taking out the annual Membership Premiership race which saw more than 27,000 new fans join their favourite NRL Clubs in the past 20 days.

The Membership Premiership race pitted the 16 NRL Clubs against each other in four separate four-team battles to determine which club could sign up the most members from February 4-24.

The NRL today announced that a total of 27,239 Rugby League fans became new members during the Membership Premiership promotion, with 5000 signing in the last 24 hours as the battles intensified.

The Broncos signed the most new members overall (4017), to claim one of the four $10,000 prizes to assist each of the winning clubs with their membership programs. The winners are:

Battle of the Beaches (Roosters, Titans, Sharks, Sea Eagles)
GROUP TOTAL: 4,783
WINNER: Roosters 1,682

Battle of the Heavyweights (Dragons, Broncos, Rabbitohs, Knights)
GROUP TOTAL: 11,158
WINNER: Broncos 4017

Battle of the Inner City Showdown (Raiders, Warriors, Storm, Cowboys)
GROUP TOTAL: 3,864
WINNER: Storm 1,204

Battle of the West (Bulldogs, Panthers, Wests Tigers, Eels)
GROUP TOTAL: 7,434
WINNER: Wests Tigers 2,004

Australian Rugby League Commission Chief Executive, Mr David Gallop, congratulated all NRL Clubs on their efforts to get their fans on board for the 2012 season which kicks off next Thursday, March 1.

“There is a lot for our fans to be excited about this season so it great to see so many of them sign up to support their favourite clubs over the past three weeks,” Mr Gallop said.

“The excitement keeps building towards kick-off next week from the All Stars event earlier this month, to the Community Carnival which ended on Tuesday and reached over 115,000 children and our season launch on Wednesday.

“Today sees the extension of our advertising campaign as we take ‘Our House’ to the streets of Sydney with three major billboards and goalposts going up at Sydney Airport.

“I have no doubt the fans, players and everyone involved in the game can’t wait for this Thursday and the rugby league season to get underway for 2012.”

Broncos Chief Executive, Mr Paul White, said his club is proud at the way Brisbane fans got behind them to take out the Battle of the Heavyweights race.

“Taking on powerhouses like the Dragons, Knights and Rabbitohs is no easy task,” he said.

“But our fans have shown their excitement is peaking as we get ready for the kick-off of the 2012 NRL season.

“It will be a wonderful lift for the players to know the supporters are behind them in such a vibrant way.”

Roosters captain Braith Anasta said his club is “stoked” to have won the Battle of the Beaches ahead of the Titans, Sharks and Premiership-winning Sea Eagles.

“On behalf of everyone at the Sydney Roosters, thanks to ALL our members who have joined up so far,” Anasta said.

“We’re ‘all in all season’ - it’s not just the players but our members that make us one strong team.

“Sydney Roosters Members are really important to the club and membership is the best way for supporters to show their loyalty.”

Well done to all the winners, I'm not sold on the way WT got over the line but the other three clubs had an opportunity to do the same regardless. bad luck in the end.

Would've liked to see the final figures too...

Yeah the final figures would have been nice to see for every club.

I am not that sold on the way the Tigers achieved the numbers but I also don't know the breakdown within the period. In terms of financial commitment to the club the one game dal wasn't that far off some teams 12 game GA deals so I can live with it.

Growth in membership numbers from all clubs should be applauded regardless though as its a push all the clubs need to be supported in moving forward

Yeh it's a bit dodgy but oh well.

The last week of battles was certainly very productive.

Someone early suggested an end of year membership drive. Maybe part of it could be the Winners of each group put on a Xmas BBQ for members that have joined in that period.

They could have games like back yard cricket, Oz tag, volleyball and a Lunch for members of the winning club to part take in with some off the team members and NRL rep players etc.

Congrats to all winners lets hope teams hit their targets for the year.

They have to start selling memberships in the final NRL round for all teams.

You go to a match to see if your team's going to make the cut or fight their way to the top. There's people there saying if you're a real fan then sign up for next year. The wave of euphoria will grab people.

Imagine how many members you could sign once the grand finalists are decided. People who can't get to the game might show their support by signing up again in mass numbers.

Anything and everything goes nowadays.
We have pet memberships ffs...10x lamer than a 1 match membership.
Still....its all support for our clubs and the game, its growth and strength which is better than the alternative

Easts at 8,187 in total.

I reckon we'll get to 10k, not sure about the 11k they've targeted though.

I emailed the Broncos and they confirmed the derby deal with membership benefits is not counted in any of their totals.

Who gives a flying f**k how clubs get members or how they count them? This isn't something to be taken too seriously. I think it was just great to finally have the clubs and fans embrace and be proactive in this newfound membership culture and, given how far we've come in just a couple of years, pretty much all the clubs deserve a pat on the back.

Our draw reads- souths(a), penrith (h), canberra (h), melbourne (a), warriors (h), titans (a)...

Opening with 3 wins in a row isnt out of the question and that would push us over the target for sure.

If we do record at growth, however small it is a great result after the season we had in 2011 and a massive endorsement of the role memberships have to play in the future.

Well if that's the case then bravo to the Broncos.

What would there total be now then?

Not sure why they aren't keeping the total on the website but it should be around 18k now, hopefully 20k by round 2 which is our first home game.

Could not agree more.A great result if we match last year's total after that debacle of a season.

A good 2012 will see us start pushing th 13 - 15k mark.

Totally agree...that is when fans excitement is the highest, esp for teams heading for the playoffs.

Roosters did that during the 2010 finals with the pledge drive.
