If the Knights get off to a good start it will be 9. Buderus 14. Gidley, for better or worse.

What makes you say that?

From all reports Wayne intends to use Gidley in the halves and keep him there. Hilder and Bedsy will be rotating at hooker.

Id doubt the Knights will be playing their club captain off the bench. We all know what a joke that was when NSW did it

For NSW, certainly not for the Knights.

Gidley will be picked if fit, and the only place for him right now is 14.

Ennis and Young both failed and Sticky seems reluctant to pick Farah, so if Bedsy fires I could definitely see him giving him a call.

Would Buderus even return to the origin arena if he was asked too? I have a feeling he wouldn't.

Given that his most recent Origin experience was captaining NSW to three straight Origin losses to start Queensland's unbeaten run of six straight series victories would weigh pretty heavily on his mind, but surely he'd be wanting an Allan Langer like shot at being Origin comeback hero?

Buderus could fall under the same delusional spell that held Minichiello in thrall:

The notion that you are the HERO who can single-handedly turn around the Blues' fortunes.

Now,if Mini had really been honest with himself, despite his yearning to teach QLD a lesson,he would have faced the fact that he really wasn't playing at a sufficient standard to raise the overall performance level of the NSW team.

History shows that Mini wasn't honest with himself,Stuart or the Team.Mini wasn't approached to play,he contacted Stuart and recommended himself. That recommendation, and Stuart's acceptance of it,went a long way to handing the Series to QLD.

Mini knows that after Game 3 last year, his name is mud.Imagine Mini looking for post career product endorsements in NSW.Whatever value he might have been able to negotiate prior to Game 3 2011 would have plummeted after his display in that game.

Do you think that Buderus would risk the same?It was sour enough for him that he captained the Blues to a three straight series loss, that was the foundation of the six consecutive series NSW loss that stands today.Would he be putting himself in the firing line when the possibility is that he could be held responsible by the NSW fans for a seventh series loss?

Who knows?Maybe he isn't that cluey after all.

Re-watched the 2011 series, some classic NSW players standing up and doing a good job in the games they were selected in.
- Hayne has to be in the team somewhere from 1-5
- Lewis is all class and has a cool head, should be starting somewhere in the backrow
- Bird gets shit from some people but he carts the ball up with speed and aggression. Also created a couple big plays. Bench or Lock for mine.
- Scott great defense and carts the ball up well when needed, was missed greatly on the right hand side in game 3 (also errors killed us game 3)
- Watmough made good metres off the bench, definitely should be on the bench again
- Gidley sparked a lot of attack when he came on for Ennis (created the go forward with the forwards that led to Lewis' try in the 2nd game, also an opportunity that almost saw Uate score about 10 minutes later) imo he is fit enough to shake off the impact hooker tag and stay there for the 80.
- Pearce I watched closely and bar game 3 was actually pretty impressive for a young half back, set the play up well and the inside balls he is well known for actually created some half opportunities (especially against the tiring forward pack in game 2). Game 3 was really lost before it started, he isn't mature nor probably creative enough to help us come back from a deficit.
- Mannah while still young played pretty well, I think he'll get better with more age and maturity.

After watching the mobile pack being used in game 2 and game 3. People came out after game 3 saying QLD had found a way around the mobile pack. But after seeing us turn over so much possession and letting in so many tries early, the QLD pack were never really under the pump like they were in game 2.
Game 2 the first half featured only 1 error from Thaiday which saw the play never really stop, which I think helped tire the QLD forwards.
Not saying we should definitely go only 3 props (including Gallen) again, but if game 3 had had less stoppages (from tries and errors) it may have worked again.

Just some fresh thoughts from re-watching the series...

Game 3 was a disaster...No one played well, Mini I'll admit was the worst on field (he was quite good in game 2 though). Iirc Pearce sparked the mini-comeback before halftime.

????

The beginning of game 3 was poor, if we leaked 1 or 2 tries the match could have been saved but leaking 4 tries in 20 or so minutes at Suncorp we were never going to win.

Edit : oh I see what I did hah

I dont understand the Bird bashing, yes he's a wanker but he's been one of NSW best for a few years now. He was terrorizing the QLD left side defence in game 1.

Exactly, he deserves to be in the side, and rightfully he will be there, be it lock or the bench.

I haven't watched Game 3 in awhile but I remember thinking NSW weren't really THAT bad.

By and large Queensland stepped their game up and NSW just couldn't match their near perfect Game 2 performance. Queensland got off to a flyer thanks to a couple of mistakes from Pearce and Minichiello and from there on it was always going to be tough. I also think Mannah & Ennis suffered injuries which really hurt later on. As much as people hate Ennis, I don't think Gids was ready to play as many minutes as he did at hooker and some of his options were just plain poor.

I also thought they really missed Scott. Stewart just wasn't as strong in that role.

1. Dugan
2. Gordon
3. Lawrence
4. Hayne
5. Uate
6. Carney
7. Pearce
8. Gallen
9. Farah
10. Learoyd-Lahrs
11. Scott
12. Bird
13. Lewis

14. Gidley
15. Mannah
16. Snowden
17. Watmough

The guys in bold are certainties IMO or 90-95% certain anyway. Hayne is pretty much certain to be in the 17 but it's just a matter of where. In the end I partnered him with Uate as I'm not sure about Jennings on the right, plus I think Hayne can give Uate a lot better ball than Jennings can. As a result that leaves Gordon on the left wing.

Five-eighth I basically tossed a coin, could be any of about 6 guys. I just think Carney could thrive in an Origin situation. Pearce and Farah can worry about the tactical kicking and just let Carney run and pass.

Hooker is an interesting one, I would go Farah but for some reason I doubt they will. Gidley I think would go great guns there as well, but I think Ennis could be that dud selection that we all know is coming.

The four second-rowers (if NSW play four) pick themselves IMO. All four have gone great in the recent past in Origin. Bird cops some criticism but he has Greg Inglis Syndrome, goes missing in club footy but never lets you down in SOO.

Bird is playing great in the all stars game, also TLL is doing very well, looks strong, fit and aggressive! Snowden doing well to cement his spot as the greatest myth in rep footy!

No arguments there. For a bloke who Bennett said has a had a bumper off season he looked to be as slow as ever. I have a feeling this bloke is an imposter who may very well have been living off the back of one L. Douglas the past couple of seasons.

Qld were just unstoppable in that opening period, the forwards made ridiculous metres and NSW could not get a look-in; one of the most incredibly dominant starts to a SOO game I've seen. The Blues were never, ever coming back from that kind of deficit, we'll need a great start in Melbourne in what is pretty much an away game
