Weyman made 93m that series.

How White was even considered is beyond me. The only good thing he's done is knocked an old and tired Price out.

Pete, 93m in a game or 93m in the series? And if it is a series, how many games did he play?

How about Ayshford at right centre pairing with Lawrence. I think he has improved out of sight plus, especially his defenceand he has a club combination with Lawrence.

Yep I agree. Thought he came on well last season and was getting the better of his opposite regularly in the back end of last season. He goes well and I hope he continues to improve this eason.

You do realise that I don't rate White. I never have in the origin arena.

But still after Gallen and TLL I don't think there has been a prop who has broke 82m recently and the original question was who was the last prop too make decent metres.

Justin Poore, game 3 2009! He made close to a hundred metres that game.

Yeah and TLL did as well (2010). It was off the bench, though.

It doesn't matter if a prop performs in one game (even if the game/series is over) if they can't back it up.

Bird and Watmough have been amongst NSW's best performers. They make runs and plenty of metres, create opportunities for their teammates and do plenty of work in defence. They have an error/penalty in their game and have been known to miss tackles but until the other forward candidates step up their game in both attack and defence they should be continue to be picked.

People are always going to be critical of Bird and Watmough. You get those NSW fans that like them and those that just don't simple as that. I for one like Bird, I think the guy plays with a ton of passion and heart and although he makes a defensive lapse or two remember one thing. He is not the only defender! There are other people around him that have to do their job as well. In Game 1 he was sharp in attack with his attacking (Leading to a try) and the in Game 2 he had a good performance as well. Game 3, Well that's was a forgettable game.

The f*cking woeful thing is that Mick's effort in that game is one of NSW's best in the past few years. Geez the Blues have played some horrible games in the past 6 years!!

:? I already said that. Still, he isn't great. He doesn't deserve to be in the team anymore than 5 or so other backrowers. And his club form, dirty tactics and off field antics should mean he is far away from any rep side.

But still  at those defending him. There's been like five or so different excuses but the fact remains if he had made a simple tackle on Smith then they don't score. At the moment it's like it's everyone elses fault. Not to say Merrin, the markers etc should have also stopped the try, but Bird still holds blame.

Yes they would have. Smith would have offloaded to an unmarked Hannant to score next to the sticks. Feel free to ignore that fact though, I guess it doesnt really suit your argument.

It was a superbly set up try by the best hooker in the game. He had multiple options to take and only 1 defender in a good enough position to stop 1, but not both.

No, you ignore the fact that if he makes a good tackle then Smith can't offload. If Smith gets his arms free then he scores, just like he did in the game.

Or just ignore that when someone makes a good tackle the attacker isn't expected to just automatically offload. It was a poor attempt, it's laughable how you act like Bird is infallible.

I never said he was infallible mate, no player is

However, if you watch the footage its clear that Smith is holding the ball up and ready to pass when he sees Bird not rushing the tackle, then he decides to run himself. If he had a hint of Bird moving to tackle him, Smith would have had plenty of time to hit Hannant on the chest before Greg could even make contact.

It was a hard play to stop and its laughable that you act like Bird is so ineffective

We really need to pick the best we have and stick with them, many of the Queenlanders that are so dominate now didn't step into the origin area as dominate as they are now. From memory guys like Hodges and Slater were pretty average for their first few games. If they were NSWman they would have been black listed for the rest of their careers.

Agree, hopefully we have a core of players from last year whilst giving new players a shot if they are playing out of their skin. For example make it a shoot out between Stewart and Dugan for fullback. Whoever is playing best gets the first shot.

Same with any position where a player hasn't cemented their spot.

Brett White played tremendous football last year, he was better than most NSW front rowers, he's not the answer though.
I think he'd be better than people here give him credit for but anyways

with the back row depth, TLL and Gallen should be starting front rowers... leaving the rest to sort it out themselves off the bench. But we need some balls and aggression coming off the bench. I like Watmough and Bird. They bring it in spades.

I think Fensom absolutely should be considered at lock. He works through 40-50 tackles, 100 metres per game in 70 minutes. He is an origin forward in every sense. The QLDers have won the past 6 series, hard to see how they dont win a 7th. And their coach is on record as saying he'd be a strong consideration for the QLD team. He's got to be considered (note im not saying he HAS to be picked but the selectors must consider what he can offer the team)

Under this selection criteria wouldn't have Hindmarsh been a Origin legend by now? Wouldn't Chris Heighington had played origin by now? and Corey Parker would be in the starting QLD pack?

Hindmarsh in his day was an absolute Origin star.
Heighington is another that merits consideration, but like previous workers, the blues seem to favour flash over genuine hard work... probably why the qlders have won 6 series in a row

whats that old saying about doing the same thing every time and expecting different results?

Corey Parker is unfortunately behind too many back rowers in QLD, and unlike most of our guys, players like Thiaday, Myles and Harrison are both flashy and hard workers. Parker still managed to be pretty much the first benchie picked in 2011 and id suggest he'll be the first benchie picked in 2012 if fit.
