Tim Grant kept saying in the off season how badly he wants to play Origin in 2012. Tonight he showed he wasn't kidding, almost M.O.M in a beaten team.

Thought Fensom was absolutely massive tonight. One of the few times that the stats tell the story:

123 metres gained
62 tackles made
Zero missed tackles
Zero errors

As usual we saw stacks and stacks of the one-percenters, plenty of clean-up work, plenty of digging deep when things got tough etc etc. Quite honestly, if NSW don't pick Fensom when he puts in performance after performance like that each week, then they have rocks in their head. This guy is made for Origin.

Grant was so impressive, but so disappointed Mick Gordon got injured again. He was in such good form early last year and now he can't catch a break. We need classy players like him.

I would of had Gordon on the Wing with Hayne at Fullback but now...

1. Brett Stewart
2. Jarryd Hayne
3. Michael Jennings
4. Chris Lawrence
5. Akuila Uate
6. Todd Carney (If returns to form, if not Soward)
7. Someone who earns it over the next 9 weeks (Pearce if no on earns it)
8. Tim Mannah
9. Robbie Farah
10. Paul Gallen
11. Anthony Watmough
12. Beau Scott
13. Glenn Stewart

14. Kurt Gidley (They always pick him)
15. Tim Grant
16. Greg Bird
17. Luke Lewis

Whilst i am Fensom fan and have nominated his name for Origin as long ago as last series, Glenn Stewart HAS to be our 80 minute lock - over the last year he's been in outstanding form and is pure class.

Would it not negate a lot of Fensoms qualities by having him on the bench or playing him for 40 minutes in the second row? Perhaps we could look at Stewart as an 80 minute fringe runner/ball player with Fensom as our glue up the middle.

But it won't leave a lot of minutes for some quality players like Lewis and Watmough to play.

i agree re G.Stewart

but tonight again showed that the blues continue to error, Fensom wont get a run at all, he's not even in the plans for the NSWRL blues... maybe when they lose 7 in a row they might consider where they've gone wrong.

That performance is pretty much his weekly standard

is fensom a walk up start? No
Is he worth considering? Are you f**king kidding me?! Of course he should.

for those who didnt see the game.
Fensom was also tirelessly working at marker to pressure kickers, and recovered two footballs that he had no right to claim... that type of thing that gus waxes lyrical about "Queensland effort"
1%ers win origin. and this kid isnt in the blues scope?
haha..., 7 in a row

Glenn Stewart and even his brother Brett Stewart - Outstanding club players, but have never played well at Origin level for some reason.

I would be happy with Fensom at lock. Produces massive stats, great defender and carts it up like a front rower. Ticks all the boxes for an Origin type of player, but probably won't get a look in unfortunately.

There has been some impressive performances from NSW props this weekend, namely Mannah, Merrin, Grant and Douglas.

Young Mitchell Allgood from parra is turning out to be quite an impressive young man. He is 22 years old and a big kid (192cm/104kgs) but his frame still needs some filling out. He made 119 metres bending the line with each run against good props Hannet, Thaiday and Mcguire. He is taken Moi Moi's spot in the starting side and Kearney has ear marked him as a rep player of the future. He is clearly not ready for rep footy yet but he should definitely be part of next years emerging squad.

This. This is why he should be in Origin. Every year we don't pick a player like that. Every year we get beaten. Mason, Hoffman, Creagh, Watmough? Pfft. You can have them. Give me a player who can put up 50-60 tackles a game every week, scraps for every single ball, someone who will fight for everything to the bitter end and who won't go hiding when things get tough.

for all these phenomenal players the raiders have, they dont seem to make much of a dent in club footy.

You might as well be describing Hindmarsh. But somehow even if they do the exact same thing, Hindmarsh is past it but Fensom's in his prime.

Anyway that should mean Fensom should be picked. I would pick him over Bird or Watmough or Scott to be honest.

I've never understood the Watmough and Stewart love-in. Watmough has had one big performance in how many? I don't think I've ever seen Stewart have a dominant game at Origin level. Creagh too. Add Waterhouse to that list as well as Hoffman. These kinds of players are easily identifiable. Perform great at club level, usually run around in the centres a lot creating havoc, not great when a side gets into a tough and grinding forward battle, frequently picked for Origin by NSW, rarely would receive the same treatment if they were Queenslanders.

I completely understand that they are great players at club level. But are they Origin players? I have my doubts. Some players just seem to grow at Origin level. Kennedy was one. Harragon was another. Clyde too. When you needed that big performance, needed someone to dig deep and take just one more for the team, or needed someone to come up with that big play, whether it was to clean-up a ball or make that last-ditch tackle, they were the ones who could do it. Those are the players we should be picking. I am yet to see Watmough, Stewart and co come up with those big plays often.

the difference is one is at the start of their career with a large ceiling, the other is in the final year of his career and declining. Fensom out performs hindmarsh right now, which is understandable given we're talking about a 21 year old v a 32 year old.

try again son. You're arguing the wrong case

Tim Grant was great but it's not something he's done a lot in his career. Up until now his performances have been solid but never much more, picking him on the back of one great game is the type of thing that has got NSW in this mess. Form means very little when picking an origin side, he needs to show this ability over a long period of time if he's to be seriously considered.

Fensom, now there's a player who shown he has the ability consistently over long periods of time and has earnt the right to be seriously considered.

Bird had another good game, 170 metres in 60 minutes. Not to mention he's got the runs on the board at SOO level whilst Lewis & Stewart have never really impressed, I can't believe people are considering not picking him at all.

Michael Ennis with only 3 penalties tonight? Good by his standards, maybe a sign Des is a positive influence on his discipline :sarcasm:

Pazza. Can you please not taint this thread with that dirty photo!

There have been plenty of impressive players this first round for Origin. It's good we are starting to see NSW eligible players start to put their hand up and want to be in Origin. We have some great young forwards coming through. Bloody hell, For a loosing side Fensom impressed me if he keeps it up he will be a option for sure. That was a near Gallen like performance from him.

Good players so far:
1) Buderus- Yeah, He's an ex-NSW hooker and in his prime was one of the best around. Captained us to wins many years ago and I believe under Bennett and if he can retain his form will claim back his Number.9 jersey. The guy can play and he gives 110%. He impressed me in the Knights v Dragons game. Tackling machine and tried to get involved and active in attack as much as possible. What we need
2) Fensom- As above. He's a gun
3) Jennings- Started the season strong with a try and looked pretty fast and aggressive. Must have trained hard in the off-season.

After Thurston crapola performance I'll be squeezing Fenson into my DT side some how.

He edges over B.Scott for me in SOO selection. With 62 tackles in Rd 1 he's impressing me tenfold.
