Dugan on the wing is so risky. He is a fullback and could easily be found out on the wing with bad defensive reads.

The term as used by Origin selectors over the past few years is a myth.
Agreed. No question that Origin is a tougher, more intense brand of footy but labelling players like Jason King, Dean Young, Michael Ennis or Kurt Gidley "Origin players" just puts fans offside IMO, particularly when they've not performed at that level. You apply that label to guys that have stood up and played at a high level in Origin - not guys that have done SFA.

Inside word is Dugan will play left wing, with hayne and jennings in the centres, and stewart at fullback.

hahahaha thats an awesome backline. was whoever came up with that playing NRL on xbox and just made the best team they could based on player ratings rather than positions or form? I used to play quick wingers as props so they could make breaks up the middle of the park. not sure it'd work in real life.

so if this backline is correct, Dugan who's not a winger would play wing (some fullbacks have a game which could translate ok to wing, dugan isnt one of them), Hayne who struggles to play fullback would be in the centres (has he ever played centres? plus he's so horribly out of form), Jennings who has been kicked to nsw cup would occupy the other centre position.....

alternatively the 2 morris boys are playing well esp brett, but lets ignore them and put more fullbacks into the team. loltzen's available sticky

Hayne always steps it up a gear in Origin wether it be wing, center, fullback he plays. He's struggled to find consistent form in a bad parra outfit. Given NSW where there is probably a better atmosphere and Hayne does not feel hindered by the rest of the squad he will lift and will put in his strong performance. Don't let his club form fool you, he's hindered by the club and attitude and morale within the club. At Origin this will be non-existent. He will step-up and perform. Can he do it at center? I has no doubt if he approaches it with the right attitude.

Dugan, Can be a risk selection on the wing (If true) but no worse then BMoz last year and he's a genuine x-factor. He's defense concerns me a bit but no doubt he will give his best and I think the only thing that is a risk is his shoulder. Otherwise he's got great ball return, good ball playing skills and is a genuine attacker. Could be a master stroke by Stuart could be a utter flop.

Jennjngs. He's carrying a niggling shoulder injury that's why he looked bad against the Storm. Subtract his shoulder and the media shitstorm he's in the middle of and he'd have performed allot better in defense. Is it worth the risk? Hard to say. He's a genuine threat with speed and footwork but if he's injured and has trouble with tackling he's going to struggle with Hodges. He might be okay though. Lawrence is still an option he brings great defense and a good attacking game (Needs 2 defenders to bring him down easy).

Bird runs for 100+metres per game week in week out, point me to a season when Stewart has done that and your argument might have some merit.

Stewart needs to be on the right to ask questions of the QLD backline defence.

Bird might make an easy 100 m in a game, but Stewart will get the ball from Carney, and be able to draw centres and put the NSW backs into space -- something that no other NSW backrower can do as well.

QLD will potentially be running three fullbacks as well, Inglis, Slater and Boyd.

Inglis is proven at 5/8, fullback and center....he can play in those positions and shytes all over Dugan
Slater will be fullback
Boyd has played wing for QLD for a few series now and been very very good.

FMD, what's with the obsession with picking players out of position??

I dont see the big deal, offensively that backline shits over anything else we can offer its just Dugan and Jennings defense im worried about.

Queensland have picked a FB on the wing the last couple years and it hasnt hurt them, they will be picking a FB in the centres this year and possibly another one on the wing, yet its a terrible tactic if we do it. Hayne has played plenty of centre and im sure Dugan has spent plenty of time on the wing.

If they really want Stewart and Duggan on the field at the same time, then Stewart would make the better winger. Shouldn't happent though.

:lol: Yeah let's pick the rep myth BMoz who will be played out of position being on the wing seeing as he's a fullback now.

Dugan has played wing before for Canberra. When returning from injury he alternates between there and fullback.

I agree with all that, doesnt mean it wont work for us. Dugan is a very good player who can handle the wing imo, and Hayne can play anywhere from 1-5, and Stewart at FB is no worries.

That's a very potent backline. The only concern I have is Dugan on the left wing and whether he'll make the right decisions in defence.

Origin is about getting the best players on the field 1st and finding positions for them 2nd imo. Slater started his SOO career on the wing as had Inglis, Hayne, Bowen and Folau.
