The Guildford Owls have been boosted by the signing of veteran forward Charlie Farah for the 2013 Ron Massey Cup season.
Farah, a former Lebanese International and Sydney Bulls player, will bring over 100 games of experience to a young Owls squad who registered their first win of the season last weekend defeating Windsor 34-26 at Windsor Sports Complex.
Speaking with NSWRL Media, Guildford Owls Coach, Steve Ghosn, believed the addition of Farah was a much needed boost to his side in their debut year in the competition.
Its almost a case of men up against boys for us some weeks, Ghosn said.
Were always able to put a few points on, but as far as bending the opposition line back with a few big forwards
thats what we've been lacking.
(Laughs) Charlie is about six-foot-six and a hundred odd kilos
so hell give us some firepower and much needed experience up front.
After securing the upset win over Windsor in Round Three, Ghosn admitted he was pleased with the development of his young players.
Were a work in progress. The average age of our side is probably only 20 or 21 years-of-age
I hadn't penciled in the two competition points heading up to Windsor and the boys played really well against a much bigger opposition.
Its hard to name any standout players because were all putting in as a team.
Averaging 32 points per game over the opening three rounds of the competition, the Owls have had no trouble finding their way to the try line; however it has been the Owls defence that has caused the most concern for the coach.
If you can score points, youre going to be in the contest each week. We've just got to fix a few things in our defence and well be fine.
Were aiming for the top five. Were not turning up to training three nights a week just to make up the numbers. It may be coming together slowly but Im happy with where were at.
The Guildford Owls take on the Blacktown Workers in Round Four of the Ron Massey Cup on Saturday, April 27 at McCredie Park. Kick-off at 3pm.
