Good to see BNRU continue to grow. They worked hard in their 1st year, and would have done better last year if WT had shown them more respect. They've found the right mix with Norths...

Be good if they consolidate and stick around. Lots of Balmain juniors who haven't made the state cup level have just stopped playing after a season or two in agrade. At least this adds on another level for them to keep playing and maybe get a few dollars

Wests lack experience in their regular squad. Most of them have never played at this level before. Just lack the resilience to last 80mins.

What happened to their NSW cup squad from last year? I know they got towelled up most games, but surely that experience would count for something in RM?

3 players from last years' squad - Tuki Jackson, Aaron Teariki and Keanu Rogers - have played Sydney Shield for Cabra this year.

4 players were retained - Seffa Silafau, Amano Tovio, Tom Morrison, Todd Makejev

Zoram Watene - Auckland Vulcans, Latu Fifita - BNRU, Daniel La Manna - Souths NYC, Greg Davis - Wollongong Collegians, Chris Nay - Parramatta RU, Michael Lekkas - Wyong A Grade, Tom Pritchard - Wenty A Grade.

They also used several BNRU players - Trent Touma, Sione Fakahua, Joe Uliubu, Joe Flint

There is never an easy game against The Entrance: Yates
Adam Kidd
NSWRL Media

18/05/2013 10:00:00 AM

After demolishing Blacktown by 60 points last weekend, Cabramatta Coach Chris Yates is confident of only one thing – there’s never an easy game against The Entrance.
With both teams positioned in the top four and almost certain to feature in the finals of the Ron Massey Cup in 2013, this weekend’s match shapes up as one of the games of the season.
“In the ten years I’ve been going to The Entrance I’ve never had an easy game,” Yates said.
“It’s a funny place (laughs)… the sheds can be full of water and it hasn’t rained for three months. It’s never easy and this weekend will be no different.
Defeated 28-0 by Premiers Wentworthville last weekend, Yates believes the Tigers will be raring to go to prove the loss to the Magpies was nothing more than an aberration in an otherwise successful start to the year.
“I watched the game the other night and I’ve probably got Alex (Wentworthville Coach Alex Chan) to thank for our tough weekend ahead after giving them a touch up,” he added.
“No doubt Jamy (Tigers Coach Jamy Forbes) will have his team fired up and ready for action.”
The Two Blues have again been bolstered by their affiliation with the Newtown Jets, with 2012 VB NSW Cup Premiership players Ray Moujalli, Khalid Deeb and Ahmed Elaz all turning out for the team in recent weeks.
“Those guys have been great. They have plenty of experience and it has a really positive effect on our team. We have a great relationship with the Jets and Matto (Newtown Jets Coach Greg Matterson) has always been fantastic with allowing those guys to play,” Yates said.
“When you get guys of that calibre back, you have to control the ball and play the best of your ability to capitalise on what those players can do.”
Whilst admitting that this year’s competition is one of the closest in recent memory, Yates nominated Mounties, a club which several of his players from last year’s squad joined in the off-season, as the form team of the first six rounds.
“They are undefeated for a reason. They really turned up when they played us and we weren’t good enough on the day to get the win. My good mate Eddie Flahey is doing a great job coaching them and it was tough to buy him a beer at the end of the game,” Yates quipped.
“Having some guys go to Cabramatta certainly adds to the rivalry, but last time we met most of them were playing Sydney Shield, so it should be interesting when we meet again.”
Cabramatta play The Entrance in Round Seven of the Ron Massey Cup at EDSACC Oval, tomorrow, Sunday May 19, kick-off at 3pm.http://www.nswrl.com.au/default.aspx?s=photogallery-display&galleryid=5118

The Sydney Shield is getting really interesting after today's results.

Belrose lost their first game when Cabra won 38-20. Hills recaptured the form shown in their preseason game to beat Mounties 26-22 and Auburn consolidated their position with a 60-16 win over Blacktown. Kingsgrove collected their first points courtesy of the bye. The table is:

Belrose, Cabra 12
Mounties 10
Wenty, BNRU, Auburn, Hills 8
Asquith 6
Blacktown 4
Guildford, Kingsgrove 2

Tomorrow's games are BNRU v Wenty and Asquith v Guildford. So there are 7 legitimate contenders for the top 5 at this stage.

RMC results today:

Wests 32 Kingsgrove 24
Mounties 38 Windsor 20
Blacktown 38 Auburn 30

That means that Kingsgrove have lost all 7 games. Last year they lost 17 in a row and then won the last game against Blacktown. Windsor have lost 5 in row but they could lose another 10 and still make the "finals" as the NSWRL has adopted NSW Cup style finals where it is more difficult to miss out than to make it.

Blacktown are RMC standard this year but teams don't worry about losing games now as they only need to win 7 games out of 22 to enter the end of season lucky dip.

I would say that at this stage there are only 4 teams that can win the comp - Mounties, Cabra, Wenty and Entrance. The normal top 5 would have created intense competition for the other spot.

Great to see the Maggies get a win up.:)

In the Sydney Shield today Wenty beat BNRU 34-30 and Asquith beat Guildford 42-10. BNRU were behind 18-6 in the first half hour but kept replying to whatever Wenty threw at them and were in front inside the final 2 minutes of the game.

Ladder

Belrose, Cabra 12
Wenty, Mounties 10
BNRU, Auburn, Asquith, Hills 8
Blacktown 4
Guildford, Kingsgrove 2

In the RMC today:

Wenty 42 BNRU 16
Cabra 30 Entrance 16
Asquith 52 Guildford 12

BNRU are a reasonably strong team and were behind 18-10 at half time but the further the game went the wider the margin became.

Ladder

Mounties 14
Entrance, Cabra 10
Wenty, BNRU, Auburn, Blacktown 8
Asquith 6
Windsor, Wests, Guildford 4
Kingsgrove 0

Mounties were considered favourites by many during the summer break and wins in the first 7 games means that they are the first team to qualify for the end of season playoffs.

There were more than 30 players from Oz and NZ playing in the French Elite comp in 12-13 and with the season recently finished, Mounties has added 2 players to its roster.

Francis Vaiotu will play alongside his brother Louis in the RMC team this week and Ryan Carr starts in the State Cup side.

Sydney Shield today:

Hills 58 Blacktown 6
Belrose 34 Auburn 26
Cabra 25 BNRU 24

After conceding a try in the final 2 minutes last week to surrender the points to Wenty, BNRU has now lost by a field goal to both Mounties and Cabra to come up no comp points against these 3 powerhouse clubs despite quality performances. The cabra F/G was reported as being from 40 metres in the dying seconds of the game.

Auburn had the opportunity to level the scores 28-28 against Belrose late in the game but McGrady missed the conversion from an adjacent position and then Belrose wrapped it up with another converted try right at the death.

Ladder

Belrose, Cabra 14
Mounties 12
Wenty, Hills 10
BNRU, Auburn, Asquith 8
Blacktown 4
Guildford, Kingsgrove 2

Wenty v Asquith & Guildford v Kingsgrove tomorrow.

RMC

Mounties 66 Wests 16
Auburn 28 Entrance 14
Windsor 36 Blacktown 26
Cabra 26 BNRU 20

Again Wests were down only 18-12 at half time but cannot seem to do anything after the break each week.

Windsor finally won a game after 5 straight losses but had to come from behind at half time while BNRU has put in a strong performance against Cabra without any reward.

Entrance had a run of 5 wins to start but now have lost 3 straight as they move into the tougher part of the draw.

Ladder

Mounties 16
Cabra 12
Entrance, Auburn 10
Wenty, BNRU, Blacktown 8
Asquith, Windsor 6
Guildford, Wests 4
Kingsgrove 0

Wenty v Asquith & Guildford v Kingsgrove tomorrow.

I bet Belrose are very happy with their decision to enter the Sydney Shield. They are 14 points from 8 rounds and are guaranteed 20 comp games, before the finals, against a variety of opposition.

Another Manly club Valley United had proposed to enter SS but changed their mind. The Manly A grade has had to meld what is left of A Grade, reserves and 2nd Division into 1 comp of 15 teams. The 2 Valley teams are on 14 points but neither is playing today because they have both received forfeits.

This is the second forfeit for Valley 1sts and in 4 of the 6 games they have played they have conceded a total of 1 field goal.

Valley may think about their options for 2014.

Windsor have added some experience to their pack - Danny Galea has played 134 games in the NRL. Galea played against Blacktown on the weekend and is listed to play Entrance on Sunday.

It is understood that Wests have secured several new players after the Group 6 clubs refused to play East Campbelltown resulting in their expulsion.

The East Campbelltown Secretary's most recent advice is that 8 players have received clearances to play for Wests and another 4 may follow.
