Have to say...think Barty rattled Serena a tiny bit - That probably hasn't happened to her in a first round GS for years.
We could actually have a decent female tennis player (sorry Sam but you're a headcase), she's quite clever and has a bit of Hingis about her.

Yeah she should be well and truly in the top 100 by the end of the year. Only played about 12 events last year (if that) and from the end of April she will be allowed to play a full schedule. She didn't play in a single tournament between Wimbledon and the US Open so there is a couple of months there where she can get a lot of rankings points.

Yeah but all of Dokic's problems came from her father. Barty doesn't have that problem. She managed to earn 412 points playing a limited schedule last year (averaging about 35 points per tournament). If she plays a full schedule of about 25 tournaments with the same consistency that she is now that will put her at about 70th in the world by the end of the year. One 4th round appearance at a grand slam and she should be well inside the top 50 by year end

She's only 17, keep that in mind guys. We said the same thing about Dokic and look what happened to her.
I'd compare her more to Dellaqua actually.
Same build and same sort of player except Barty has more finesse and this kid is quite indepedent and has had to work very hard for her tennis appearances.
Early days but Serena Williams bagels players much higher ranked in later rounds.

Matosevic and Nishikori have gone into a 5th set. I would back Matosevic to get him at this stage. 3 hours on court in 40 degree heat, you have to back the local.

A win to Matosevic here sets up a probable 3rd round clash with Hewitt

Pretty big news in the mens, John Isner has had to retire at the beginning of the 3rd set. I can't remember that last time he bowed out in round 1 of a major.
