Rugby league fans are embracing NRL memberships for the 2014 season.
Rugby league fans are embracing NRL memberships for the 2014 season.
For the first time, NRL Club members will have the opportunity to decide how to spend the winnings from two club membership races, with a prize pool of $400,000.

There will be two Club Member Races based on attracting the most new members from the start of the race to the end of the race.

There will be a total prize pool of $200,000 across each race, consisting of $100,000 in cash and $100,000 in advertising grants.

In the first race, prize money will be offered to the three clubs with the greatest increase in their total membership number by Tuesday 20 May.

Race two will reward the top three clubs with the greatest percentage increase in their total membership number, during the same period.

"We are having two races to ensure that clubs with a larger membership base as well as those with smaller membership numbers can compete," NRL Head of Commercial Mr Paul Kind said.

"We thought that it was important to give our club members a say in how they would like some of their prize pool is spent.

"It’s a great way to get the members excited and hear their thoughts on investment.

"Suggestions might include a member’s party, new club facilities, charity donations and interstate travel rewards."

Could anyone anyone over 17 getting excited about receiving that stuff... the sticker is so childish you would be ashamed to put it on your car...

You see the white bunny sticker on BMW's Porches etc... because its kind of under stated ... this parramatta stuff is crap

I wonder if any clubs have been delaying processing some memberships to get more in the eligible period...

Maybe the number of night games and introduction of more Thursday nights is putting people off? Not sure why, when clubs are claiming fanbases of 400k plus, they are struggling to get 15k to show their support?

I ditched my membership with the Tigers because of this at the start of last season. Only 1 Sunday afternoon home game last year plus the cost went up $60 on the 2012 ticketed price for the "Gold" tier package.

As a fan who cant get to the games any more due to family / work etc...

the crappy trinkets in the non-ticketed members pack turns me off signing up...

I would be more likely do buy a NRL $90 polo shirt / with a free one game membership package , that some of the AFL clubs are offering...

Would suit a lot of people i reckon, a chance to feel part of it... but doesnt feel like your just burning a $70 on non ticketed membership to get crappy lanyards and "exclusive" emails...

My interstate Panthers membership cost $40 (Proud Panther package)
That's cheaper than buying a hat online and paying postage.
I've done my bit to support the team and still get my hat along with other stuff.

Are any clubs having trouble getting members cards/packs out to members in time for Rd one?

Wests Tigers are....its weird, some seem to have dramas renewing each year, and some its no problem whatsoever

They've had less work to do than any other club, you think they'd have it under control.

Got our Dragons ticketed membership cards listing all of the 20 odd home grounds we now have last week. That many different home grounds and seats listed on the back of a credit size card, I can hardly read the print!

It's not a good look if memberships don't really increase this year. That 400K number is looking like a pipe dream at this point. Crowds also haven't really increased. As far as i'm aware tv ratings were down last year so it's kinda hard to blame that either.

Regardless when tv ratings are down for the first time in ages it's pretty hard to blame that on poor crowds/memberships.
