It's a Slothfield exclusive so I give it zero credibility.

I heard on Brisbane radio this morning that the Qld Reds have booked Suncorp on Friday the 7th and the Roar have it booked on Sunday the 9th so I'm hoping Fox pick up this game for Saturday.

100% correct. Reds are booked to host Cheetahs on Friday night, then Roar have A-League booked Sunday.

I dare say it'll be a Round 2 game if Buzz isn't completely full of it.

Why not make it a Bulldogs home game? Wouldn't that get a better crowd and give 9 the match they are after

Why the f**k have they gone away from the Broncos v Cowboys Rd1 game?

It was becoming a real tradition and got the Broncos best home crowd of the year.

It's like someone in the NRL goes, "something's successful, lets bury it"

The Daily Telegraph revealed on Wednesday that the NRL is ready to announce a round one game between Barba’s Broncos and the Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Friday, March 7.

But in a blow for rugby league, The Daily Telegraph can reveal the Queensland Reds have already booked Suncorp Stadium on that night for a Super Rugby match against South Africa’s Cheetahs.

This f**king paper, man. Buzz gets caught out with a bullshit story and rather than print a retraction, they try to claim another scoop. The Telegraph isn't revealing anything about the Super Rugby draw. It's been out for over a month! Buzz just didn't bother to check any of his "facts".

Rugby league deserves better than these jokers.

Every year there seems to be a new reason not to have it, which is just bizarre to me. It draws a massive crowd and they'd built a really good tradition there for a while. NSW gets their blockbuster roosters v 50uff$ season opener so it was the perfect QLD opener to compliment it.

How many Raiders FTA games are we expecting? 1? 0? My money's on 0.

Ricky is there now, you'll get 4 or 5 in the first 20.

In regards to the Cowboys / Broncos not being rd 1, I don't see a problem with something different. Same goes for Roosters / Souths - a change would be nice.

So you reckon, for the sake of diversity lets change a high drawing high rating game matchup to one that will have less appeal.

f**k it, why not have Melbourne v Raiders in Sydney as the opener!

*facepalm. a game featuring a NZ club is alot more logical don't you think.

Well not really.. the spirit of ANZAC was joining the two countries, not pitting the against one another so that one loses...

Plus, the original concept was designed to have the game as a follow on for the anzac march.. the fact it's been shifted to 4pm is a slap to tradition already..

The storm one was started to try and cash in on the crowd from the AFL anzac clash between essendon and collingwood (the dragons - roosters equivalent game) as the AFL game generally gets around 90,000 or more..

given barba isnt a certainty to be back from injury i'm surprised nein would push for that game so early on....

Get back on your pony. There are a few other clubs that would draw big TV numbers first up.

Even your combination, as shit as an idea as it is ;-) , would draw a good audience week 1. Everyone is keen for some footy by then.

You're claiming that Broncos v anyone is going to draw 40k+?

It's just another dumb decision by inept decision makers.

Is Brisbane vs NQ high drawing, high rating because it is played in Round 1 or because it is Brisbane vs NQ? If it is the latter, having it later in the season would be just as affective, wouldn't it?

I understand what you are saying, but why change a developing tradition for the sake of shits and giggles. By the same logic, lets have different teams play every ANZAC day, lets play Origin in December, play the GF in Melbourne etc.

The hype in QLD leading up to that match is used to be immense and it buries every other sport into the ground. (they haven't played it Rd1 for a couple of years now)

Further if they leave it til too late in the season (i.e. around Origin) it will draw a terrible crowd.

I can't see the justification for it personally, CH 9 are smoking some serious sticky weed if they think the debut of Ben Barba is some type of "event"

Broncos should get less Friday games

The excuse for Ch 9 having more Broncos games in Friday night was to accommodate for Queensland viewers.

But there are two other QLD teams. Surely Titans and Cowboys would rate better on a Friday night.

You are incorrect.

The draw always gets discussed, and often caned, at some point throughout the season. So people must have some ideas about what they want from the draw and how they'd go about it.

What do you think is the biggest priority when building the draw? What are the bigegst problems we currently get? We'll assume it's a 24 game season - no expansion plans or drastic changes to the season structure.

Do you want the draw to be as equal as possible with club's playing 12 games each against teams from the previous year's top 8 and bottom 8?

Do you think it is a priority to make as equal as possible the travel and rest between games?

Do you think the draw should be done to maximise local derbies and "event" games?

Should the draw be biased to give bottom 8 teams from the previous season a better chance of making the finals?
Is there any positives in having the top 8 from the previous season all play each other twice and the bottom 8 all play each other twice (or near to it)?
Would this create more interest? Would it create cannon fodder for week 1 of the finals? Would it help or hinder crowds and interest, both throughout the season and in the finals?
