Right game, right ground. We don't do this enough!

And we don't have enough 'right grounds'!

Belmore sold out earlier this morning! More members should turn up and more tickets released then last game... I dare say it'll get around 18-19K! Shame it No longer holds 25K+

Channel 9's obsession with the Tigers is hilarious. What a f**king rabble of a club, but don't worry, brooks, moses and tedesco will be superstars one day...

Serious question but dont the club and leagues club buy the ground? Not enough clubs own their grounds in australia which is a big problem imo. Seems most are happy to let local government own professi9nal and grass roots facilities which puts the code forever at their mercy and investment in stadia dependant on political decisions.

At what point can the ARLC say that crowds arent good enough and the licence should be stripped from those owners??

(im not suggesting move the team out of Canberra, but are the current operators really the best people to run the club there? Canberra people just seem emotionally dislocated from the team and the club doesnt seem to be doing much to remedy this...)

I very few (ie none) clubs in australia have the financial power to build, own and maintain their own stadium at any sort of level. Most NRL clubs would struggle to pay for the upkeep of the surface.

Say a 25000 seat stadium costs a reasonable $150m. If an nrl club wanted to build it they need to borrow the money. So they borrow 150m at 6% for 25 years. They are looking at $1m per month to service the debt. Then you need to maintiain it, staff. It etc etc etc. so say $1.4m / month. Assume 20k for 13 home games, you need an average ticket price of $70 / person. $56 / person at capacity to pay for it.

This is not viable for most nrl clubs or afl clubs for that matter. Even NFL franchises get their stadiums built for them. Only really the biggest clubs worldwide can afford to build and own their own stadium. Nrl clubs are not remotely in this class. If they do own their own its a second or third rate facility at best and they dont have the money to really improve them.

Best chance would be something similiar to the proposed brookvale redevelopment were part of the land can be developed for other use/sale to pay for the development of the new stadium. Some wafl clubs here have started to do this Such as Claremont, WA cricket tried to do it to sort the waca out but seems to have fallen apart.

On.y way to do it otherwise is to have the stadium used all year around or have 3-4 tenants to make it viable.
