Don't souths have like 31k members? Yet only get 27k on a beautiful Sunday with no competiton against their traditional rivals who probably brought 10k fans with them.

I guess pets, dead relatives and celebrities don't attend games..

Theyve got 2-3k members in wa. Probably a bit far for them to travel.

PR too many teams in Sydney is the big problem. Till they do something about that the problem will always be there

Too many clubs not enough fans. Something has to give.

Id Like to know what the nrl strategy for growing cords is, if they evn have one.

The match schedule committee needs sacking. Grand Prix on. Tens of thousands in melbourne for it, no afl and they schedule the game to be watched by 10k at Brookie, wtf?

The Roosters did not bring 10,000 fans. They would have been lucky to bring 500.

No way timmah its way more filled in on the sides and more at each end. My guess 34k but i still think decent weather and form we should be getting more. Maybe some sort of ticketed membership gate sharing between the two clubs even if at different grounds would boost away attendance. Plenty of empty seats at anz so not a problem ffom that side of it
Yes way ;-)
There will be 40,000 here by the time the crowds finishes growing. Remember they don't lock the doors at kick off. Another 5-10k show up during the first half.

I know ANZ. There's 30k there now. There will be 38-40k by the time they announce it.

 Desperate

35k of that 27k is Souths fans at least.

Derp maths or obvious troll?

It seems to me that growing crowds is a tough ask for all codes with most/all games live on TV or on-line. I had a look at crowds since 2007 and all codes have struggled. Remembering back to the GFC Rugby League was the code that the doomsdayers were predicting would suffer the most.

I would love crowds to grow but its not just a struggle for Rugby League. The media sometime hype up some of the big events in A League and Union but overall they aren't growing either. I would love a 20k average but think it might take a while. Getting to 17k would be a big achievement as we have been stuck in the 15k/16K region for ages

2007 2014 Rise/Fall %
Union 21233 18191 -3042 -14.33%
A League 06/07 and 13/14 14025 13025 -1000 -7.13%
NRL 15750 15905 155 0.98%
AFL 36793 32333 -4460 -12.12%

Footy has been great so far, if it continues i am sure things will improve

Today's game was top notch and deserved a much bigger crowd. But I am not sure people care any more. They will only attend in large numbers for state of origin, grand finals and the very occasional club game.

There is an anomaly in that comparison with A-League - the 06/07 season had 18 rounds from memory, the competition is now 27 rounds long.

There is a lot more competition for there dollar now also.

I feel though that early mid March hardly feels like it's even supposed to be footy season
