Was over at Miranda Fair this morning, and when we were done I said we'd go for a little drive to Shark Park. I wanted to see the development (not realising there wasn't much to see as yet) and the kids wanted to see Sharky Parky.
Anyway, driving there, I said to the missus if the Sharks do a cheap enough member only, I'll sign up and support them even though I've driven the hearse and death ridden them before. Just thought I might start being more positive and do more for RL support.
So in I trot.
For those who don't know the club, there's the sign in desk and to the left, a little kiosk selling jerseys and fan merchandise and where you sign up. A chap was trying his best to help two women and a kid with a purchase of a singlet. I waited with another chap, say about 55.
Anyway, chap in shop asks what other bloke wants. Says he can't really help him as the shop is really closed and that 'no one from the footy club was there'. This bloke just wanted to sign up himself and a number of family to get seated season tickets. Bloke behind counter says "just come back during the week or ring...ummm..." and wanders off to find the number.
I've spied the 2015 Membership Application Forms in a holder. As the concierge searches under the front counter, I hand one to the bloke and said was best to call 1300 SHARKS which was printed on the form, or do it online (and to check if he did online if he could get a discount). The bloke was thankful as the chap wandered back over.
As the bloke left with his app forms I reminded him it was a really good thing he was doing signing up and supporting his club so make sure you go through with it. I've done it for years and I got lucky last year seeing a premiership.
Anyway. Just thought NRL clubs in this current climate would jump through hoops to sign up members. Even if the bloke in the shop couldn't help, he should at least be versed that there's a form to give potential members, know the number (1300 SHARKS doesn't seem that hard) and write down the blokes name and number and say he'll pass it on to the membership team who can check if he has signed up or help him do it over the phone. Just me, I know. I guess most people do it online now, but still...customer service is what wins you customers.
Regardless, scored the kids a 2015 Cronulla team poster and sticker as freebies and they were over the moon to see Shark Park for real.
Then took a long drive and ended up at Kogarah and Saints Leagues. Their shop was shut and the bloke at the door whilst friendly told me they didn't have any membership forms. Oh well.
