I always liked Ben Smith. You would think he wouldn't do this to his club, no good can come of it imo.

Chances are he will win his case, run for the board and the same blokes get voted in again.
Smith might even pick up less than 100 votes.

That would be more embarrassing for Smith than it would for anyone else.

If anyone wants to laugh, please go to the other site and read about the planned protest. Not sure if it's a piss take.

Everyone will know that alternate tickets to Sharp will be Spags or Fitzy endorsed.

I think the members worked that out last time. That's why Sharps ticket got up in a landslide.

Who will Fitzy and Spags use as their puppets this time.

Rumour going round is that Fitzy and Spags are splitting the $70k bill for Ben , that's how desperate they are .

That's pathetic, but sadly unsurprising. Can't believe they just won't walk away.

What does he (or I guess, they) really stand to gain from this mess?

One seat on the board where every idea he has will be defeated?

Why go to the trouble & expense unless the intent is to remove the entire board (or at least gain a majority) that weren't voted for last time, why would that change, I really doubt that even given the recent trouble we've had (which IMO was way over hyped by the media, and nowhere near as bad as they are making it out to be) that a new election would have that different a result?

Is it really worth $70K to fight this? It's not like being on the PLC board is highly lucrative? Maybe it's all about kick-backs from contractors and that sort of dodgyness (sp?)? It's the only thing that seems to make any sense, even rich dudes would baulk at paying $70K for something with no return for the investment, right? Unless you're like a multi-billionaire and you could pull $70K from between your couch cushions..

Is there a benefit to being on the board (apart from running the team), like a financial benefit that would be worth blowing $70K on?

Not so sure it will cost 70k. Shouldn't require a lot of court time. Largely document based stuff. And if one of the puppet masters has a lawyer on a retainer, even cheaper.

perhaps $70K is not an accurate estimate of the actual costs

But even at any price?

You'd have to assume it's gonna cost a fair bit, I mean you don't take a two-bit lawyer to the supreme court (honestly I'd be amazed if they bother to even see a case like this), so getting a decent lawyer will cost something, although as Barry mentioned if you have one on retainer (as most big business types do) it would be somewhat cheaper, but even still it's gonna cost some money.

Maybe I'm just assuming these guys aren't as rich as they actually are? maybe they have a bunch of "F**K you money" (love that term) lying around just to throw at stuff like this?

I still don't see the point though.. But then I'm on the outside looking in.
