Well he is either a complete idiot with no idea .... or a complete fool who is being led astray by others with no idea of the actual reasoning behind it ..... either way he's an idiot for going on national radio with NFI

I agree there is a clash of egos involved .... but I think only idiots get balls deep to the point of making a public fool of themselves over a dick measuring contest.

I'm sure many otehr past greats don't agree with everything that goes on - but you don't see them acting like complete fools in the national media over it

Mate, I agree.

I suppose it just makes me sad that these former greats who were all great mates 20 years ago are now fighting like a husband and wife about the only thing that they are probably all truly passionate about.
It just doesn't make sense to me.

What's confusing TBH is that neither Fitzy, Spags or Price actually came out and said what Sharp was doing wrong. It just sounds like sour grapes and that they just wish they were in charge.

Pricey was bitching about the team but we're only a few wins away from the 8 and have actually banked some pretty good wins this season (considering that Hayne ditched us). Not to mention signing Beau Scott and Foran for next year. So WTF really.

You don't need a QC (SC as it now is). You don't even need a barrister. A solicitor will do (though won't make as good a cup of coffee). Technically you could represent, or act for, yourself (but only a buffoon would attempt to initiate a case without legal advice and representation).

It's just the vibe of it all. A man's Leagues club isn't any man's home, it's Ray Price's castle.

Yep.

Edited for accuracy.

The best all round League player Ive ever seen. He was massive for Parra, State and Country.
Id prefer to remember the Ray Price of those times. Ill just convince myself that my hero is quietly enjoying
retirement and not destroying relationships with my other heroes, Cronin, Sterling etc.
So very sad.
I chatted to Pricey whilst driving a bus on the Gold Coast a few years ago when Kearney was coach. His attitude was exactly as it is now.
Wont let me near the place.
Dont want my help.
We need a new coach.
As a club we do owe Pricey. Im not sure however he would accept the help he needs.
Again I say, its so very sad.

I'd love to be rich enough to be able to hire a restaurant, get them all together and smoke the peace pipe. Tell them all to work together. I reckon I could even get Bart and I to agree on stuff if we were on the board together.
You (and maybe others) might be surprised Suity. I'm sure I could hypothetically work with you on the hypothetical Board.

Sure I was suspicious of 3P from the outset, and you were one of their biggest cheerleaders, but - apart from hassling you about your blind Wanderers love - there's not much else that we disagree on...

My sources at the AGM tell me it was pretty uneventful?

Price wasn't eligible to be in the room, and Sharpie shut down a couple of Denis' attempted tricky questions with ease. Presume Spags wasn't allowed in for the same reason as Price - not a paid member of three years' standing.

See you later Denis and Spags, and all of your associated "friends". Walk away now, respect the members' wishes and let the adults do their thing :nwave:.

All in all the AGM went as planned.

Some notable things.

Denis wanted to raised a point of order before the results of the election were announced. Sharpe said it was not the forum, time of place for his objections and moved on.

On the Financial report, John Fenwick asked about the Seattle trip and if spouses or family members attended the same trip and paid their own way. Sharpe said he would take that as a question to be answered on the website after the AGM.

The Annual report was spoken to by Sharpe and then Bevan Paul. His talk was quite comprehensive and answered most of the questions that we given with prior notice.

Questions on the Annual report was from Parra Professionals Candidate David Zaiter, asking were the costs for the project came from. Mr Paul responded the scope was put out in a survay of works. Mr Zaiter asked what was the breakdown of costs and who the surveyors were. Mr Paul and Sharpe said they would take the question under advisement to be answered later as they didn't have that information to hand. Mr Zaiter continued asking along the same lines, here leagues club security moved the microphone away from him and ask him to sit down as his question had been answered.

Afterwards a Member spoke about the improvements to Vikings and thanked the club for helping save the club, Mr Paul said he thanked the members who were involved in the club for helping him save the club.

The first ordinary motion was put to the members, and once read was put to a vote, here Mr Fenwick offered a point of order to discuss the motion but here Mr Sharpe told him it wasn't the time and place and he should comment during the general business.

Both the 2nd and 3rd ordinary resolutions were read and passed.

Then questions with notice were 5. These were mostly answered by Mr Paul's discussion of the report or were more congratulatory.

General Business,

Mr Fenwick stated he only received notice of the AGM in the post today but that it was dated the 28th of April and posted obviously after that and as such was not enough time to get a question in with notice. As such he believed his questions would be ignored. Mr Sharpe told him his questions and the answers will be available on the club website in due course.

Denis Fitzgerald spoke to two issues with the board. First that it appeared to be running for 6 months in contradiction to the constitution in that only 2 members of the board held the special qualification. And 2 why was the special qualification not raised during these elections. Again Mr Sharpe said he believed the question were not appropriate for this forum and asked Mr Fitzgerald to sit down.

There were then several members who spoke to getting behind the elected board and not disestablishing the club which it has been since 2009.

Someone asked for an update on the OLGA investigations. The Investigations into the previous administration are still going and will go to hearings. Also an investigation into the boards from the 2005-2009 era has been started by OLGA. Mr Paul believes this investigations results will include a heavy fine for the Leagues club, some restrictions on their licence as a licensed venue but should go any further for the club.

Anyone that remembers more please add it. I am getting old and my memory is not what it used to be.

Parramatta Eels chairman Steve Sharp tells AGM he will end embarrassing infighting at club

Date
May 11, 2015 - 9:05PM

Adrian Proszenko

Parramatta chairman Steve Sharp has described the biannual battle for control of the club as an "embarrassment" and vowed to do everything possible to ensure future elections won't damage the Eels brand.

Sharp's ParraFirst ticket won all seven seats on the board over the weekend, raising hopes of a period of stability after years of political infighting. He topped the ballot with 821 votes, ahead of former teammate Geoff Gerard (768), Paul Garrard (731), Tanya Gadiel (730), Peter Serrao (711), Tom Issa (687) and Andrew Cordwell (661).

The next best candidate was Mark Riddell who was running for rebel tickets backed by former powerbrokers Denis Fitzgerald and Roy Spagnolo. The former Eels hooker finished 217 votes behind in eighth place.

Speaking at the annual general meeting of the Parramatta Leagues Club, Sharp said it was time to end factionalism in order for the Eels to move forward.

"I will start tonight's proceedings by apologising to all members of this great club for the embarrassment once again that was the club's elections," Sharp said.

"The contempt that some individuals show for our club has come to a point where we as a united organisation must say enough is enough. My commitment to you the members is that we will seek out every possible avenue to find a way in which our biannual electoral process is not played out in the media as we have just witnessed. On that I would like to thank the members for starting that process by overwhelmingly showing their faith and support for the current board."

While Fitzgerald wasn't allowed to stand, he made his presence felt during the four-day election period. The police were called onto the self-proclaimed "Emperor of Parramatta" — a vocal backer of, and advisor to the vanquished Parramatta Professionals ticket — before the polls had even opened for allegedly not remaining within electoral areas. While Fitzgerald and sworn enemies Ray Price and Roy Spagnolo made an alliance, of sorts, over the weekend they still couldn't get the numbers to dethrone Sharp's ticket. Price and Ben Smith were also deemed ineligible to stand.

"In relation to Mr Ray Price, Ray received a free membership in February 2011," said Leagues Club chief executive Paul Bevan, who confirmed 131 free and backdated memberships were cancelled.

"Club records confirm that this membership was issued for free. The registered clubs act requires members to be financial in order to be eligible to stand for election. Mr Ben Smith was employed by the club and therefore ineligible to stand. The club's legal advice is that Dennis Fitzgerald is constitutionally ineligible to stand and as Mr Fitzgerald has advised that he would be progressing court proceedings no further responses will be made in relation to this matter."

Another issue was the liquidation of the Parramatta District Rugby League, which oversees junior development in the region. "At no time was there ever any risk for junior football in the district," Paul said.

I'm so glad that everyone listened to Pricey. He said he wanted stability and for us to tread water for a while and see what happens - well that's exactly what we got!
